      Hi all,
I am attempting to make a decent usable terrain....

      • Had someone convert a TIN to a DXF contour (Couldn't do myself)
      • Trimmed the extremely large file area to only use the area I needed (To reduce file size)
      • Purged unused > saved and ran sandbox > From Contours > Saved.
Now here is the part I am not yet knowledgeable about…….
      • I want to reduce the polygon/triangle data to reduce file size
      • But I don’t want to deform the terrain too much as to not be usable for “accurate” modeling of walkways.
      • I tried using “Artisan” > reduce polygon, but for 50% only got a 13,297k file to go down by 100
      • Is the original file size small so I should use it, or is there some way to make it less data intensive.
      • Does there exist something where it will convert all faces within, oh lets say…1 degree into one continuous face thereby eliminating lots of hidden lines that make up each little section?
      • Could not find any tutorials yet still looking. Any advice GREATLY! Appreciated.
        Thanks,
        Matte

You can have a look at Fredos TopoShaper plugin and compare its result with the sandbox one and see if you can get a cleaner topo...

Yes, I would look at Toposhaper. Then if not that, Instant Terrain https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/instant-terrain which will re-surface the model at the degree of detail you want with regular triangles. I find SB is just too uneven for some models.

Is your terrain area really large?

You might want to try going back to the contours before sandbox and hit them with Curvizard. This lets you cleanup and simplify the contours which can reduce the files size enormously, without losing too much detail.
