Hi I have an thought. by expanding yout process to include all these steps may help Make 10 to 12 double group models Use section tool to work into each outside group with group edit, copy paste one, section .to ea group model. Compometize inside group for later editing. Use 5 different skp files to work ea scene way you want them. Open another sketckup (6ea maybe ok) you cut and paste too and from.(child and parent) Use layer tool in parent Use scene tool in parent Right click for context menu or double click all sections, to get action cuts. Chri's suggestions are sound, but it doesn't get over the 'labeling' issue... If you give the components names relating to part-refs then when you manually add a Text object pointing to one of them then by default it should show its name as the initial text-string ? It would be possible to code something to add text at every instance with its definition name etc, but try it manually first off...

If you want that someone makes a plugin for you post a file SKP (save as V6) with also an image before / after for avoid missunderstood problem Maybe your problem is trivial for a ruby coder, maybe not And this must work for any number of components ?

Yea, the toolbar settings are complicated. They have a weird relationship of multiple values so it's not as easy as just finding one setting for one toolbar.

Good notes. I usually try to keep them collapsed, but this still happens, so I guess keeping them closed altogether (except maybe "Entities") would be better, with shortcuts (then the wishlist item for more shortcut modifier keys comes to mind). plugin icons-- Never have a good solution, especially since many (like perpendicular face ) open when I have closed them in previous sessions (yes I've seen a code fix for some of them). I just close them each time unless I think I'll be using one. Wish the Apple toolbar was more useful (more compact and having multiple lines). But that's how it is. Thanks for the replies.
