 I know a plugin exists to Copy Components at Defined Distances Along a Path: I've used it before, but I can't find it.

 Hi. Your post reminded me of a similar question I was going to ask here a while ago, but I never got around to asking. 
 Today I went looking for and found the Plugin that I was going to ask about, thanks to your post...
