@davidboulder said: I haven't looked through this entire post. Good, don't waste your time Just watch the videos and if there is one you like, then use code associated to that video. Much of the thread was me rambling on and on. @davidboulder said: As long as I was careful how I named my scenes, I could drop swap out my SketchUp fle in my Layout project, and get a quick shadow studies for any project. I think that is an neat idea too. I find myself drawn to video and animation for this type of study personally, but whatever works for what you need it for. I would like to develop a full script that layers multiple shadow times on top of eachother and colors them differently - maybe blue red and orange or something for morning noon and afternoon, for each day of the year. I think that is potentially a useful script. Bytheway, Al at renderplus has a script that will layer shadows on top of each other and output them as a single image. I think it is part of his NPR (non-photo-real) toolkit. I'm not sure if it costs or is free. But he developed that after we had some discussions along this line, about how to layer shadows. It is workth looking at. Chris

@thomthom said: I'm not sure, but I think someone before mentioned some issues with new line characters that acted unexpected. Try opening the rb file in a good editor, setting the newline (end of line) character to UNIX (instead of Mac or WIN,) and resave the file. Also sometimes, block comments =begin ... =end have problems (and I avoid using them and replace them with a '#' pound character at the start of each line.) My editor (Notepad++,) uses the pound characters when I use the block comment menu command on a highted multiline block of text.

But that works only if any "little segments" of curves are no vertical! And this is not evident if you have some curves corners!

Dig around this forum also. I think someone recently detailed in the developers forum how they got an xml writer hooked up through ruby so they can write xml files easily.

@unknownuser said: activate the plugin which immediately groups the selection then switches to the move tool.. upon moving/placing the newly created group, it explodes? Yes - by using the ToolsObserver http://code.google.com/apis/sketchup/docs/ourdoc/toolsobserver.html you can detect Tool activity. Though you need to find out what state in the tool to look for.

Yes, it works in any plane - the lines must be coplanar and potentially intersect...

Hi Morisdov: As I wrote on the first post, one of the uses of the plugin is helping in the research of how the bodies in the night sky can be used to contemporary design (please do not mistake this for astrology). So a lot of rotating goes along, orienting a single face to various points in the sky until finding the right one. Since this thread, I have simplified my request of the plugin here: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=27876 Regards. @morisdov said: Hi Javier, I cant guess which faces in your 3D model should have the ability to reorient themselves towards anything. The "archeological site construction" which is the only 3D model is frozen by history and must be locked for any changes whatsoever. you should place in that 3D model many Skethcup "cameras" and orient only them to face certain directions towards the sky at a certain date and time point. (like the sky of the longest day of year 500 BC or 1492). You can ANIMATEvia sketchups standard view animation features to "look" form the cameras - this will be your demonstration of this whole idea. You may add lines from the cameras to the cameras target point(star in the sky) to emphesize and "prove" and "explore" that the archeological site was indeed constructed in ancient times in accordance and perspective related to stars positions of specific dates and times. As an unrelated side note - i recommend exploring when "perspective" was first "invented" in each cultures paintings Cheers, Moris

Has anyone found a way to have certain models not affected by inference-snapping? I'm finding a couple situations where I wish the inference-snapping would ignore a model in the scene. For example, I have a large sub-divided plane and I'm trying to extrude a cube in the foreground, the motion keeps snapping at sub-division way off in the background.

When asking questions about rendering it helps to tell us what render engine you use. Most render engines for SU does not render Section Cuts. There is poor support for that. One has to manually cut the model - on a copy of course. There is plugins to make such cuts.
