I would highly recommend using Fredo's Thrupaint plugin for applying textures to your SU model. Note that default texture size in vfs is 10 inches (254mm) = UV of 1.0 The bump maps should correspond with your SU material and there shouldn't be any need to adjust the UVW scale in vray.

I would recommend exporting that landscape as a proxy if you do want it in the scene. 4mil faces isn't an issue with proxies. It's an issue when they are just faces in SketchUp though, because that means we have to crawl through 4 million entity objects in SketchUp, examine what material is applied to each entity, build the mesh, etc... could take ages. If it's a proxy, the geometry is already in a format V-Ray understands, and it can work with it very quickly and with little overhead.

Rect light with color applied to it behind a glass plane with the refraction glossiness set to something like .7? Use a good amount of subdivs on it. Play with fog color to achieve the 'milkiness'.

@greenskp said: Someone knows of one workflow to it doesn't happen? I believe if you triangulate, you can avoid writing a material for each face. See info in this post: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323%26amp;t=44501%26amp;start=120#p513778 ThruPaint is magic! Definitely the way to go if you can get what you need that way.

Just tested a DR render with a dome light and another with an HDRI in the GI slot too and now issues here. Make sure to update all of your spawners when you install a new version / release.

check your memory usage. SketchUp is a 32bit process, so if you get close to 4gb of ram being used, you're going to get a crash. One day SketchUp will join the 64bit world, and this won't be a problem. Until then, try to keep RT renders in lower resolutions if you can.

Put a bullet in 1.49 man. It was great for it's time but it's a bit of a turd in comparison to 2.0.

If it is a 360 HDRI, you don't need to change anything. Check that you have the mapping set to Environment. If it's blurry its because it is a low res file. There are some hi res ones on here for free, give it a try. Consider buying some commercial ones if you really want hi quality domes. http://www.hdri-hub.com/free-samples

You should be able to just change the file extension on the material to be .vismat. This will work on the Glass Standard material, but yes, The VRayBRDF material is incompatible with 1.49.

@andybot said: Just a small detail - you need to make sure you put your alpha mask at the "perpendicular" material in the fresnel reflections. Otherwise, you will have a reflection over the whole face. With the diffuse mask, only the diffuse layer will be transparent. You could also try a normal map or bump map to try and get the reflections going in different directions on the wire. thanks Andy, I'll have a look into that. EDIT Andy, That worked a treat!!!!

it won't be addressed in the upcoming service release, but it will be something we look in to for our 3.0 release.

@cveti said: Hi all, I see that the topic is old, but I think that I can help somebody else, who just starts with VRay for SU. I'm a brand new newbie and I'm still busy with the manual of Vray for SU. I also just stuck with the translucent materials - I made tousands changes in order to get the proper look of the material, but the result was - just solid opaque material. Than I started to search the web and I found this helpful tut: http://www.richardrosenman.com/project/?cid=85 The MOST important here is that we don't needed to check the translucent checkbox! Strange, but it perfectly works! Then the result is great and what is needed!!! thanks a lot ...
