You need to be careful when drawing. I don't know another solution.

I worked out a way, cannot select individual materials but need to select the whole groups material then just replace in the respective channels. Not always easy to select the whole group material so can export as a proxy then can easily select group material from proxy.

Very good. I would suggest reporting it to the Vray folks. Maybe they should fix it.

@a2theo said: The first step to fixing the rendering shown is to balance your lighting with your camera exposure. Right now, the image is quite dark, yet the light source in the upper left is..... Note: We created a YouTube video that shows the technique for adjusting lighting issues like these. You can take a look at that video here: https://youtu.be/yYZuVpddCgk Thank you for the suggestions and the time taken....

I place all my vray lights on their own layer and turn the layer off when I don't need it. But come render time, i turn the layer on and i'm good to go.

Tweak noise threshold (.03-.1 for tests, .005-.01 for finals) and Max subdivs. Switch to v3.6+! Disable 'Retrace' while testing. Hardware minimum: Latest I7 32gb ram, healthy SSD, gtx1080ti or better.

Hi I don't think this principle is the general fitting answer and it always depends on the model intention, the camera and lighting options etc. etc. In principle it is often most intelligent and sufficient to work with a simplified model version of an environment. - by means of suitable real photo texturing material, this can often "fake" the impression of a real situation better than even the most elaborate modelling work - at least as long as it's just the scene background Exactly like a native SkUp model is 3P perspective, your real photo will always be a suitable 3P perspective! When photographing you can already consider which edges might be useful for you later in SkUp - Useful for photomatching are pictures only then when you can adjust the red and green axes later on. And only for graphic reasons for example and only if needed: 2P perspective instead is always an "artificial" alienation of the image output above only - this output option is still available in SkUp as well as in any renderer or also later via post pro in any image editor ...

I like use a Mix Operator tex in the Diffuse slot with the Occlusion map on top set to Multiply, then of course you put the albedo map in the bottom slot.

Yes, that is what proxies are for. I recommend you watch all of Chaos Group's tutorials on their youtube channel. They cover proxy use on their latest webinar concerning setting up an exterior scene from start to finish. She starts with proxies at about 29 minutes in. Cheers! GD

As far as the second post processing part, I wouldn't know how well that would go but probably can be done with some brute force. The first part would be making a successful import of the photo in Sketchup and aligning the vanishing points, getting it in scale etc. Then I would begin drawing lines from a reference corner of the wall, paving etc. to draw in the space and locate the position of the new building. Then I would position the model on those lines. People do use this for modeling additions or new buildings on a site. The process is the same. You model less of the existing buildings--you are just modeling surfaces and reference lines to get to correct position of your new building. Those who are into photo realistic rendering probably find it doesn't meet their standards. Those who are doing NPR probably find it hard to blend in an attractive manner. Here is an example without using renderer but with SU and some PS work. The original existing photo and one example of a new entry design modeled in SU. I prefer to have the liquid overlap the container so that, for example with red wine, the color of the liquid is more apparent (makes it look like the liquid "sticks" to the glass.) Otherwise you see more of the glass reflection. It doesn't matter for clear liquids as much, so either way is fine in this case.
