Use fur for carpets man! - displacement is not worth it. Fur is 1000X faster and better for this application. I try to stay away from displacement altogether honestly. Theres a good chance that you need to remap the texture's location. Open the material editor - click on diffuse - see if its missing. Are you using 3.6?

Did you assign V-RAM in Windows? I also had some scenes which froze my laptop with 16GB (14 usable) and after assigning V-RAM scenes worked good. Try this. If not, your trees might be Laubwerk and you lack physical RAM.

You can also set the Material ID color in the material options. Sometimes this field is set to black.

My opinion is that this is very good for this subject matter, scale etc. When you get into architectural or other types of design, a more polishe photo-realistic or artistic style may be needed. (The corduroy waves look a little unusual, but sort of cool too. I mean they could be there, but usually you'll see that sort of wave action very close to shore.)

Beware that old vismats - especially from version 1 (dear God version 1) will just cause issues in 3.x Start fresh or use the library that VRay comes with.

You shouldnt always depend on a vismat to create materials. Go to Youtube and watch a couple of basic tutorials. An epoxy floor seems to be pretty easy to setup. Look at photos on the web and then understand what parameters will get you that look. Seems that you need a base diffuse and then maybe just up the reflection on it as epoxy floors are very glossy. http://www.cgtextures.com might have a good diffuse you can use.
