If you still have slowdown - I would make Richard's idea even simpler - keep 2 folders, but instead of manually re-linking each image, as long as the file names are the same - simply copy-over the original small images that LayOut is reading with the higher resolution images.

Mate the reason for the third folder is to achieve the same thing but to not overwrite and lose either the lower res or higher res images. Again what I do is keep one folder with hi res, one with low res and then the third folder being the one LO reads and to here is where one alternates between high and low res images - again named commonly.

Sounded like you were manually re-linking all the images. But yes, 3 works just as well, just copy in the resolution you need, and update references in document settings. Wasn't clear when I read it earlier.

Thank you - DaveR, Richard, pbacot & Nick.

    I will try both Richard's & DaveR's workarounds

Trimble: Perhaps you might consider some improvements to dimensioning 3D views in 'Layout'.

Thank you once again for your generous help.

After looking at my model I do think that it was a style update issue. Thank you very much for the help with that one, it was getting quite frustrating.

I still don't see why they are incapable of printing pdf? Back when I used ACAD, everything was printed from PDF - never used .Tif due to the potential scaling issues. I don't live in a large town either - around 15000 population and our printer gets it right every time. If you get really frustrated, I just bought an in house printer for $2800 that works incredibly well. It can print the pdf's generated from LO in 1 minute full color. It's an HP T790. It's been great so far!

    Sonder,
First....thank you for your incredible support/advise/tutorials of the SU Layout module.
    An inspiring compilation indeed.

    RE: Local Print Shop
I do not understand my local print shops difficulties either....to my (mild) yet vocal frustration, I have not really pressed them on it but to say/demonstrate the omissions/etc.
To which they will "get it right" the second go round.

That said, I normally print off 11"x17"'s of my Arch D's for proofing (BizHub) which of course are just as they should be.
IOW...I rarely print Arch D's for my own consumption............rather leave that for the client/contractor(s) etc. to order.

And of course that is where the problems arise.........the WYSIWYG .pdf......often does not square with the print shops output.

I am running on here........but....end of the day I think we are fast approaching a somewhat paperless document era.........and in my opinion it cannot happen fast enough with respect to the current printing difficulties.
Plus, seeing all the incredible details you have created....would be a real shame to see them printed grey scaled.

    All the best,
    Charlie

Thanks for your help. Starting with the end in mind and the methodical layer creating tip solved my problem. My model now shows 71 components and 34 layers.

Nick, there are indeed times when I want both entities to be displayed so the current action is fine. I also like that when something is copied and pasted it winds up on the currently active layer. That said there are many times when I do want to hide some entities in a group. The dashed lines I mentioned before is one and in my work there tend to be a lot of them. Dimensions and leader text would also be included. They start on a layer higher in the stack than the SU viewports. I would like to group these entities together but if I do, I cant lock the SU viewport without locking the text or the dashed lines, nor can I hide some of those entities then without hiding them all. I tend to avoid grouping the dashed lines, text and dimensions with viewports because of this behavior.

Well, OK, you could do that.

If you have SketchUp views in your LO project, you have at least one SKP file in the LO file.

    Screen shots please?

Did you create a scene with the section cut in SU? Did you update the style to include the section cut?

Hi Sonder, all measurements in Su were entered via the VCB, the drawings are 2d in plan view, so no "~"s in SU.
However just tried to reproduce this in a new drawing but all fine. But have discovered I need to have 'Autoscale' on in LO and everthing comes right. I've no idea why, I've checked the help files on this, but it's all beyond my poor brain.
But problem solved I guess, thanks for your help.

Make sure you have saved the style you want and have it set with the scene update, and saved the SU file. In LO set the reference to the Scene.

Another issue might cause the style not to be set correctly== if your scene is set NOT to remember styles.

Yeah there is no easy way. Though at least you can setup a flip shortcut! flip all the text to the opposite then select each and flip.

If you are using SU as your plan reference and your doors are components, LO will recognize the CP. I dimension all my windows and doors to the CP and it works great. Your effort will be further simplified if you draw a threshold / sill.
