Groups and layers

Is there any way to get group items in LO but get the items within the group to respect their original layers. Have only just tried grouping (I ususally just use layers) but it seems that in Layout you can only do one or the other. If you group items that are on separate layers they all move to the current layer? Would be good if you could group something and still be able to turn layers of within the group!

Dave, this has nothing to do with scenes or layers in SketchUp.
Samyell77, at this point, if you select several entities in LayOut and make a group, they all wind up on the same layer. I can think of cases where I'd like to have groups of entities in LO but keep those entities on their original layers. Maybe this will get a change in the next version.
I often have cases where I've drawn dashed lines over a SketchUp viewport and would like them to be grouped together but still have the option to turn off the dashed lines when I don't want to see them. Fingers crossed for a change in that.

Thanks TECHDAVE02, I don't think layout can do what I want it to. I put different elements on different layers in LO. Views on a View layer, Notes on a note layer etc. When I group a view and a note together the group then moves to whatever the current layer is which means that the individual layers no longer turn things off within the group.
Thanks anyway....And DaveR - i hope they change it in the next version. Would make life easier in a lot of circumstances. Easier navigation and organisation which speeds things up!
Cheers

I for one do not want them to change the layer arrangement. Typically if you are grouping something, you want it to be visible together on a given page. In that case it should be on the same layer. I really like the feature of selecting the layer first, then copy and the item ends up on that specific layer you have pre-selected. This is extremely handy when you are overlaying multiple SU Scenes on top of each other. It makes control very easy.

Nick, there are indeed times when I want both entities to be displayed so the current action is fine. I also like that when something is copied and pasted it winds up on the currently active layer. That said there are many times when I do want to hide some entities in a group. The dashed lines I mentioned before is one and in my work there tend to be a lot of them. Dimensions and leader text would also be included. They start on a layer higher in the stack than the SU viewports. I would like to group these entities together but if I do, I cant lock the SU viewport without locking the text or the dashed lines, nor can I hide some of those entities then without hiding them all. I tend to avoid grouping the dashed lines, text and dimensions with viewports because of this behavior.
