Modo's render engine isn't bad, far from it. Certainly not given its price. However, it's no match for Vray or Maxwell. Have a look at the gallery over at Luxology.com. Not that many great looking interior renders in there. There's a handful, certainly, but those came into being, I'm sure, at the expense of very high render times. While I quite like Modo's renderer, I wouldn't mind an extra option.

My "first" render (not exactly, as I have been reading Luxrender forums and I took the idea there. [image: Ggzg_640.jpg]) And I made this experiment for fun (colors are decreased in the rendered result, so is not accurate): [image: Hg2p_animacion.gif]

@solo said:  Is that a Vue render? wait...is that a render? nope it's not a VUE render, if i'm not mistaken it's a 3DS max render and yes it's most definitely is a render, a very incredible render in a mater of fact you can visit Daniel's site here the thing is, i have seen lawns (grass) rendered like this not only on the net, but have seen a couple of your own render i think with incredible outcome from VUE... so if you have anything resembling that, i would really appreciate it, or even a small tutorial on how to make a lawn on terrain

Hi Chris, Although I don't mind you posting your question here at the SCF, I do suggest that you make a search at the KT Forum, where I'm sure you can easily find answers to most (if not all) of your questions...

Sometimes I get the feeling I'm getting left behind, "too much technology too little time" Any Ideas how this Nvidia GPU and new the new I7 MB's is all going to work, within the next year? It looks to me like the CAD GPU market, which is a lot, lot smaller than the Gaming GPU market, is going to pay a huge price for the privilege of real time rendering.

I suppose it is also dependent on what your budget is. I am also on a mac, and have used Kerkythea pretty much exclusively. You can find the X11 install online on the Mac site if I remember correctly. I also didn't have the disk but found X11 online. Thea is now out, and available for a test drive, or if you are running Parallels, etc on your Mac Twighlight sure gets good ratings. Kerkythea is great, but it does have a little bit of a learning curve. However, the way it is set up really gives you a deeper knowledge of haow materials etc work. It also renders biased and unbiased.

@dadwill said: I am using version 3 of IRender nXt and it does not take into account section cuts so it renders whatever is in front pf the section cut. If anybody has an idea please let me know? Thanks IRender nXt does use Section cuts. It looks through the section cut to see what is inside of a room, etc. However, the geometry in front of the section cut is still used for lights and reflections. This is important in most cases, because you want to see that a room looks like, but you may not want to have to place the camera inside of the room with a wide angle lens. If you are not getting section cuts, make sure they are enabled properly on the nXt Setup tab. [image: 500px-Section_plane.jpg] Section cut through a SketchUp model. Note: Even though you use a section plane to remove geometry - such as this front wall - the illumination inside is not changed. (The sun does not shine in through the now-open wall - and still creates shadows from the invisible windows.)

@unknownuser said: Question: I have used the RpTreeMaker to make some trees but when I use the option to create the Vray Alpha i get no results. And if it saved an alpha - where does it get saved... Or - maybe I dont know how to get the trees to render good (without a black outlind border around the tree)the holes that should be see thru but they are not, they have black blocking them. Now I can use photoshop to clear that black out but to save it as a new tree pic makes it square again so trying to create one for Vray seems not to be working. Maybe you can explain it a little bit to me. The Vray clipmask is saved on a "dummy" material on SketchUp. You would need to click on the material and choose "Export Texture Image" It is also stored in your temporary folder in a subfolder called RPS_TreeMaker_Images [image: 3GNe_rptree-vray.jpg]

The SUp built-in PDF Exporter is for 'vector line work' only and doesn't support shadows etc - it's rather like a DWG export in that respect... If you want to make a PDF of a scene with shadows et al [just as you might export an image file as a JPG or PNG] then you just download a free [or an inexpensive] PDF-writer. It'll becomes an additional Printer - you simply print to that instead of your paper printer. The PDF is saved - usually named after your model in a selected folder/desktop... I use PDF995, but there's lots of others that are 'free' - see CutePDF, BullzipPDFprinter, PrimoPDF, PDFreDirect, PDFCreator etc - Google 'Free PDF Writer'... The 3D PDF version doesn't take in the shadows either [I think?]...

ow I see. Sorry, that was my first time to post here. Anyway here's what I do with bump maps > i use the texture on the surface > then i add another copy in "in model" of the same texture > i change the name of the texture to xxx_bumpX.jpg - the texture then changes to a solid color. (like with bricks texture, when i change the name the texture changes to a solid brown color) Is that what's supposed to happen when i change the name?

I am looking into this new technology at it has it's uses. I have read that it comes most useful in iternational competitions, where you have to render 20 to 40 versions of a big model in the same day. For a freelancer or a small firm, it comes handy when time is a problem: you upload, apply materials (and even scene props like trees cars and people) and launch the render. In little time you will have a very good looking render of the scene you uploaded. I read an inside interview on on of the creators of felix, and he said his clients are people like zaha hadid and norman foster

For me the challenge right now, is to find a way to make terrain from topo curves, in blender. I saw many tutorials, but I'm trying to find a process similar to the Sandbox in Sketchup...Sometines I'm tired with all SU gaps, so when I find time I'm trying to learn Blender, which seems to be the better alternative for me...for various reasons.

Thanks for posts. I try to make a model of actual vegetation. It means, that I import a photo of terrain into sketchup, project it onto terrain made of contour lines and where I see a "green spot", there is a tree. So I placed a component onto the terrain on these spots and I would like to replace them with trees in Vue. Ii is truth, I could make the same direct in Vue.
