This Autodesk project holded another name before : Cooper, or something like that. I tested it a few month ago when it was still a beta, and It's really similar to Layout. During the beta, the soft was a bit slow and all options were not available, but ats this time, the soft was already nice. I'll try it again.

Thanks for the heads-up. There was another user with some (probably/maybe) related problem over the Help Forums. I also "updated" the topic there with your info.

@charly2008 said: Hi Frederik, I can't contradict you. Everything I have learned about SketchUp and other programs I have from books and mostly from Video tutorials and diligent practice. Often I hear myself say: damn, that must still work somehow. My mistake is that I'm sometimes too impatient. Thanks for your suggestions. The Manual to Thea, I had completely overlooked. Karl If you like video tutorials, there are some basic tutorials available for Thea. Take a look also on "How do I...?" forum.

Hi Stinkie, I have been looking at a program called ARC+ in the past few weeks. http://www.arc-techno.com Go to the video examples to se it in action. It is as close as you will get to the workflow that SU provides and seems quite reasonable. Also, the two guys I have been in contact with from arc-tecno have been very good to deal with as well as one of their resellers in teh Netherlands, Stefan. Have a look at these short videos on Stefans website. http://www.cadez.eu/video/ Audio is a little annoying so turn off the volume if you want..... Seems very intuitive though!!

Hi Lapis Lazuli, Install kerkythea in applications folder, exec file is called kertkythea. You might not be able to launch the program if you do not have X11 already installed make sure you have it, it should work.

This would indeed be useful. I use the Extrude Lines by Vector tool to create my own drawing planes all the time to avoid snapping to unwanted points. Since we can't turn off inference, then we need something to shield the drawing tool from snapping to what's beneath the reference plane.

Hi, I have not used Arroway textures but I would suggest the following workflow: Change your material type to "Phong". This is appropriate for any wood material. Change your albedo map to the Arroway diffuse map Change your bump map to the Arroway bump map. Input a low bump value (Remember the value is set in meters so try something like 0.001 initially) Change your exponent map to the Arroway reflectivity map. Experiment with different values until you are satisfied. Good luck! You might get a better answer from some of the experienced users at the Indigo Forum.

chris, these are a few rendering applications that I'm aware of, and what are to me their major pro's and cons. Artlantis - (seperate application) really easy to use. comes with a material library. also, the studio version offers good animation options. reasonable quality, but not physically accurate, and has some quirks with its radiosity. V-Ray - (plugin) very good quality. physically accurate lighting. option to light with hdri-maps. option for toon-materials. but way more complex to use. POV-Ray - (seperate application) free. also physically reasonably accurate, but very slow if you want good quality. an exporter was made for SU6, but works with SU7 as well. Podium - (plugin) rather cheap, very easy to use, but too few controls for my taste. Now there are a lot more around that I haven't tried out myself, this is just what I think about the ones that I have. I must say my personal favourite is V-Ray, but Artlantis is a good second, especially when there are plants involved - because of a library that my boss has bought... good luck choosing...

Glad you find a workaround, but wonder what caused the original problem. Sometimes ruby issues seem almost like alchemy.

I found it pretty useful - especially after I created a lot macros and routines to do common things. I'll send you a link to it by PM Note - it contains a copyright from Google, so you may not be able to include it in an Open Source project without their permission.

Matte, Perhaps you can take a look at the set of videos I made explaining some of my workflow from Sketchup to Max/Vray. It may be helpful as a place to start as I tried to keep it as simple as possible. - http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=21825

Hello salvuzzo. When you say "i cannot visualize the model with his texture, but jus as meseh surface, is it normal?" Do you mean that you only see the model as a "wirefame"? In general I find it quicker to navigate around my models in Kerkythea using the wireframe view, but sometimes I have to check the model to see where the heck I am. To view the model as "shaded with textures"(KT calls it "solid rendering"), Go to VIEW> ADJUST> and choose "SOLID RENDERING"(your other choices are Point Cloud Rendering,Wireframe Rendering,Mixed Rendering and Hidden Line Removal. I believe all of these have to do with your "screen view" or how you see the model BEFORE your finished render). This should change the screen view to solid view of your model... I find this screen view slows down KT alot for for me on my old Mac. Too bad KT does not have "Shaded" or just "Monochrome" views as choices. I usually use KT for quick renders(I'm still trying to figure out all the awesome lighting features,HDRI and rendering choices),but the neat thing I found is that when KT opens up the model, it uses the last view you had in SU when you exported it. I usually set up my camera view in SketchUp before I export my model since I find it and more intuitive to move around in SU than KT. By the way if you are thinking of adding lights to your model, it is best to do so in SU and not in KT(at least at first). It is really cool how the "point lights" snap to a surface(I wish some of my other 3D programs could do that). If you add the lights, this will disable the "SUN" in KT by default... so if your lights are not bright enough you might see the scene as being too dim. Just keep experimenting until you find the right intensity for your scene. Good luck! ![A model in "Wireframe" view.](/uploads/imported_attachments/DJTT_Picture1.png "A model in "Wireframe" view.") ![The same model in "Solid Rendering" view.](/uploads/imported_attachments/2Cyj_Picture2.png "The same model in "Solid Rendering" view.")
