@thomthom said: Emissive materials should not be used as primary light source. Use omni or rectangular lights as primary. Thanks ThomThom ! It helps me too, because I tried this http://sketchupvrayresources.blogspot.ca/2011/07/trick-removing-splotches-in-vray.html But it's still the same! Now with a rectangular light it's really better.

Maybe you should start learning something about materials and their components first... this applys to any renderer not only maxwell. Maxwell for Sketchup is a bit limited when it comes to more complex materials (compared to the Render Suite), but starting with an AGS or glass material and adding a bump or normal map should be possible... http://support.nextlimit.com/display/maxwelldocs/SketchUp http://support.nextlimit.com/display/maxwelldocs/Maxwell+Materials

Hi Jonathan Why don't post the model and I'll have a look quickly. I'm fairly sure it's easily rectified. Andre

Genie out of the bottle, can't go back to version 8 since many of my students worked on project at home in version 13. As far as writing code I don't have the background to do that. For now I just scaled large toolset in three columns and have it floating close to the edge. Anyone else have a problem with toolbar editor extension not working ?

@tommy point said: Materials: Some faces of the model show materials while others do not. You have to paint front side of a face. You can distinguish front from back-side in monochrome display mode in SU. There is FronFace plugin written by me, which can help you reverse those faces. @tommy point said: Transparency: The glass in the windows is reading pretty much as opaque. This is very basic thing. You have to edit the material. It can be done in two ways, by editing it in Thea Matlab or by applying SKM material from recently released SU library of Thea materials. @tommy point said: Background: I haven't even begun to play around with background/context options yet, but I'd like to add some landscaping/trees, horizon, etc. Where is the best place to start for a basic backdrop and some entourage? I am sure, you can find very nice backdrop images in Component, Materials & Styles section. @tommy point said: Tutorials: Does anyone know of any other good "getting started" type videos for the Thea plug-in? There are not that many user made video tutorials out there. I invite you to register in Thea Forum and check our tutorials section. The Thea users community is extremely helpful, similar to what you can experience here.

@danble said: @numerobis said: @danble said: Bloom Unit. I work at migenius, who created it but I've never had any cause to use anything else. I deserve that! But I do think it should at least be on the list. Bloom should be in the list, I don't use it but it's a fine looking system. I don't like pay as you go though.

Hi,I meant to simply a path drawer with nodes on the lines.Like using to draw a mask. You can add nodes and move it with line and modify to any deformed arc to match your desire easily.Like in Photoshop or After Effects or any kind of vector design program.

How is made the material? Also have you checked the model? (no backfaces, no smooth etc.)? Here is a SS of a correct mirror material. [image: q2hE_Cattura.JPG]

mmh... i wouldn't call this blurry or unsharp - the resolution is low, but anyway... reflective materials need something to reflect to look good/realistic. In your picture example it's only the skylight that is reflected and the only object that defines the reflection in the tutorial image is the person standing on the left. In your image this reflection is also there, but it's only slightly visible on the border of the image and your material is less reflective. The preview scene has a frontlighting which produces stronger reflections, but even there you get not much reflection. Without knowing the other values i would say at least, that lowering the bump value will give you more defined reflections. I think your bump value is much too high with 73%. Normally you should keep it below 30%. A too high bump value will darken the material and can produce unrealistic results. If you need strong bumps it's better to use normalmaps or displacement.
