Yeah phone's used to be fashionably small. I love small phones. Remember the old Nokia 8210? Now they're becoming bricks with huge screens. I understand the smartphone revolution and need for a bigger screen, but would be nice to see equivalent mini phones again.

I still believe this is one of the best looking and most practical phones around. Plus it was TINY!!

      agreed!

that and lack of style too... nowadays its all about the bigger screen, cause the phone isnt made for phone calls anymore, but for games and internet
my choice? i use a simple non-smart phone for calls and a tablet for the rest

the best one i had, was this one, though.. super-light, super-thin, i had battery for a week and i droped it like a 1000 times, and the thing never broke

i love the stile, its like a NPR but with some PR feel to it
      great renders!

just two things that i think you could make even better:

      1. the wood texture on the cabinets and walls is a bit repetitive
      2. the flames on the fireplace are a bit cartoonish

    • RE: SU crashes on importing Vray material.

he is talking about the VRay 2.0 BETA version...

try this: instead of importing material, load the mat, and then assing it, like in the pic

BTW, you know that old version vismats dont work with version 2.0, right??

after Paul Walker's tragic death, yesterday, i remembered my many hours spent with the Need for Speed game saga, back in the days

much respect for the man and the actor, and may he rest in peace

kind of a fun tribute to him, with my previous render and 10 minutes in Photoshop

Oops - this thread has been hijacked.

Would you guys mind continuing the discussion of how to use VRay in a new thread?

hehehe, dont mind at all, but the issue is solved, so there will be no more VRay discussion

      thanks a lot, Tadema πŸ‘

Hello xonpt, Open V-ray output settings, open environment, open the Material Box and under Sunlight you can alter the sun size, bigger the sun the softer the shadows. Hope you can understand this.

      John

thank you for the answer, but i actually did just that... and i changed the size from 1.0 to 3.0 and even 12.0, and i always got hard shadows...

maybe i've got to give it an even higher value, i will give it a try

      πŸ‘ πŸ‘

p.s. - Mike Amos, i totally agree with you, and that's why sometimes one has to spend more time "cleaning" the model than actually rendering it.. but that's part of the "job"..

      Sorry Al, I used V-ray
      John

sorry for the noob question, but im trying to learn VRay (slow process for someone used to Artlantis, lol)

how do i get softer shadows?
i used a "shadow catcher" material for the ground, and the standard sun light..
and i tryed to play arround with the 'size' and 'subdivs' of the sun light (in the environment tab), but i couldnt get softer shadows...

i suppose it can be done with dome light or HDRI, but i havnt got to that part yet, lol
is it possible with the standard sunlight?

Sure pools can be "fully filled", but it requires a bit different structure that appears used now in the model. Just look on some perimeter overflow pools...

yes, i do know that.. what i meant is "common" pools with no overflow gutter, like the one in the picture...

i'm sorry if i dont express myself correctly, i dont know the correct technical terms for those structures in english

good render and i like the mood, but the moddeling could be better

i actually like the trees, what i dont like is the water and the cables
cables need to be... well... cables, with braces and hooks to the wall (sorry, i dont know the technical term in english)
and no pool is filled millimetrically up to the top like that

maybe another sugestion, while still keeping it minimalist: a few leaves under the trees would make a nice touch
