@dave r said: An alternative to the right click, Save as... thing is to open the destination folder in the secondary pane of the Compnonents window. Set the top one to In Model. Then drag the components from In Model to the secondary pane. If you are making a bunch of components that all belong in the same collection, i.e. windows or door knobs, and you are making them in the same SketchUp file, you can open the Details menu in the Components window and choose Save as a local collection and make the library in one swell foop. Thanks thats a great tip All you power users are so helpfull...thanks again

It's also worth noting that the path and the profile don't have to touch. In this case, it means the radius of the path circle isn't especially critical. [image: OjmV_Screenshot-11_25_201710_25_51AM.png]

@dave r said: Does the extension require that something be selected before you start it? If so, select that kind of entity in the model and the search for the menu item in Shortcuts. The same thing would apply to creating shortcuts for native Context menu items. Hello Dave, thanks sooo much Its simple when you know how to do it!

LayOut is part of the SketchUp Pro package. Your profile says you are using Make. I guess you could export each view and then import them into a text document or even an image editor to get them to all show in a single sheet. If you want to make scaled views, that gets to be more challenging with image exports and the quality of raster images doesn't tend to be as good as the vector output from LayOut. By the way, if you are using SketchUp for your event and conference planning, you need to be using SketchUp Pro anyway.

I guess that's why it's called follow-me. You first establish who "me" is then ask the other shape to follow. : )

I originally wrote this around the release of SU2017. It's still the method I use. 1. Custom shortcuts: Those get picked up by the new version of SU so that's automatic. 2. Custom materials, styles, components: Those folders from the beginning get put in a place I can quickly access with Open or Create a local collection and Add to favorites. (I never add my own custom materials, styles, or components to SketchUp's own supplied asset folders. They always go in folders I create.) 3. Custom templates: I just save out a blank SketchUp file from the previous version to somewhere I can access quickly. Open that in the new version and use File>Save as template. 4. Extensions/Plugins: I always install fresh copies from their source. This helps to eliminate potential problems due to changes in Ruby or other things that might cause old extensions to fail or throw errors. For me it isn't worth the trouble dealing with the errors if I know I can head them off in the first place. It also gives me an opportunity to do some house cleaning and skip plugins./extensions I don't use anyway. With the Sketchucation Plugin Store tool, it's easy to batch install bundles at least for files available there. The EW also makes it easy to automatically install files. 5. Toolbars: I make a screen shot of the current version showing the toolbars I have active and where they are along with the custom toolbars for the native tools. I import that image into the new SketchUp version as an image and use Zoom Extents to make it fill the drawing space. Then I don't need to look back and forth between SU versions to make sure I have things where I need them.

What sort of trouble are you encountering? One or both objects would disappear, or there would be lots of imperfections (missing faces) in the resulting structure.

By logic, if everything is a component or group ("shape" doesn't describe anything) and you have only one edge left, it doesn't belong to anything else. What is 2 and 3? One problem you might have is if your friend drew anything on other layers. All edges, arcs, cicles etc. should be drawn on Layer0 in fact Layer0 should always be the active layer. You can check this by editing the components and select different edges to see what layer they are on. There's a plugin (should be built-in) called "default layer geometry" which moves all selected geometry (edges faces etc) to Layer0. It's very useful. It leaves components on the layer they are currently on and it operates on geometry both outside and within components (you don't have to edit or "open" the components to make it work). I would usually run it on files I get from others. you have a line in the Outliner?

Hi All, Thanks again for all your input I was away and couldn't get back to you until now. I worked out what the problem was and found the file with thanks to Tigs instructions. All sorted. I was then able to open sketchup without the pop up window opening. Thanks Luke

If the [imported] component has gluing/cutting behavior set, then that means any instance of it will "stick" it onto the first face you applied it onto. If you select such an instance, right-click > context > unglue... It can then be moved independently of its initial connected face...

Thank you TIG. I didn't notice any highlights of the offending geometry. Is there any other tool that can find the offending intersected geometry? I'd like to know how it actually happened to being with, for future reference... Anyway, thanks again for concisely explaining how to fix the issue. p.s., I still get SketchUp Bug Splat if I put two of the same component in model. Does not happen if there are two different components, i.e., Main Rib Center & Outboard Center Rib. I sent a Bug Splat report, Crash Report #73801. No response yet...

Haven't you ever wondered what would happen if you click on that button in the upper right corner of the Entity Info window? Here's a circle, unexploded, and you can clearly see its length or circumference. [image: f0ef_Screenshot-11_9_20174_29_18AM.png] It's also the circumference of the circle, not the sum of the lengths of the edge segments. [image: 24Jq_Screenshot-11_9_20174_30_31AM.png]

Yes. And it's not new to SketchUp 2017. That's been a feature for years and years. You have the secondary pane displayed. You can hide the second one by clicking on the up arrow in the upper right corner of the window. [image: xEyn_Screenshot-11_3_20178_38_48PM.png] You can set one to the In Model collection and the other to another collection. The In Model materials are the ones that can be edited and the tab is displayed only in the primary pane. You can also use the second pane to save new In Model materials. Set the top one to In Model and the other to your desired custom collection. Then drag thumbnails from the top to the bottom.

For the avoidance of doubt... You should not be running SketchUp itself as the administrator - although as an ordinary user you can have administrator powers. The SketchUp exe file properties should also NOT be reset to 'always run as administrator', as this elevates SketchUp's process above that of Windows Explorer, creating unexpected issues. You MUST install SketchUp properly. Doing it in other ways leads to unexpected and unpredictable issues - the errors you see are indicative of an incorrect installation. Please follow these steps carefully. Close SketchUp. Find the SketchUp installer's exe file - probably in your Downloads folder ? Select its icon. Right-click > Context-menu > "Run as administrator" When prompted choose "Repair" When you restart SketchUp it should be installed correctly and avoid these errors. However, if it does not try this... Close SketchUp. Find the folder: C:/Users/Marianne/AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 2017/SketchUp/Plugins/ The users AppData path is hidden, but is accessible. Go up one level and select the Plugins folder's icon. Right-click > Context-menu > Properties > Security [tab] > Edit [button] Ensure all of the groups/users listed have the "Full control" [topmost permission] checked. Apply/Save the changes, and the settings should ripple down to all files and subfolders etc. Restart SketchUp - any better ?
