Thank you. That seeems to be it. So that can be done. Oddly: I made the other layer visible and saw the lines. I then made it invisible again and lines were now there on the same layer as the surfaces. Hmmm.

Have a look at the SketchUp Basecamp video "Working With Terrain and Other Irregular Surfaces" that Daniel Tal gave. http://sites.google.com/site/3dbasecamp2008/. Another on would be "SketchUp and AutoCAD" Mitchel Stangl and Daniel Tal Hope it helps.

Here are a couple of links to metal textures. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=b7241eebb0f5b5d933bf41b1f231ed96 http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=67e757a616cd88dddc50a691c68014fd Of course you can always take a nice picture and make a texture out of that. You can also use a program like Photoshop to create your own, you will find a few tutorials on how to make metal textures: http://photoshoptutorials.ws/photoshop-tutorials/textures/metal-texture.html

It would depend on many many factors including the model, components used and performance of the machine doing the rendering. Probably the best way to see if your machine is up to the task is to try to render one of the more popular but simple models from the 3D libary and see how fast it goes..

Check to see if you have any section planes which might be causing this. Look in the toolbar for the section plane tool. if you enable it and you see section planes that you did not intend, right click on them to delete them.

Does this help? I have only modelled the basic blade and twist. You now need to model the leading section so that the cutting edge is sharp. You will find skin.rb on this site under the Ruby section, although it is not really needed for this model. The final twist has been smoothed, so select hidden geometry to see the construction. Kind regards, Bob Auger model.skp

I've posted this bug on the tester's forum. It is present with the rotate tool as well as the move tool. When a group or component is "selceted" you can't inference (click on) a point that is within the selection. It is particularly annoying in a rotate/copy or move/copy. This is not the way it was in older versions so it is definitely something that got broken in V6. I knnow they did pay attention to the bug and have it on the list to fix. BTW, the bug works differently on different graphics cards I have found ( I teach across Canada and the same excercise behaves differently on different computers). With some Graphic's cards it works fine. With others, if you find the inference point first (touch it with your cursor) and only then select the component and then click on the inference point, SketchUp will remember the found point. On other graphics cards that doesn't work either and you need to draw a segment to the point ( outside of the group or component) and then you can find the inference when the component/group is selected. Bummer, but that is the way it is.

Nice one guys, thanks for the input. My problem is that I just don't have the time to learn it at the moment. I'm sure they could look really very good in SU, and it's my artistic skills that let me down in Freehand. However, for the moment I will stick with Freehand but I definitely want to learn SU. It would certainly come in handy in the future (when I have more time on my hands). Thanks Again!

That did it--thanks! Apparently, Sketchup had installed itself to open jpegs, so I changed the settings and it's back to normal!

Once its imported, you need to place it in the model by clicking somewhere. Try that and see if it helps. Chris
