Hi, Select the section plane, right-click and from the pop-up, choose "Create Group from Slice". De-activate the Section Plane (from the same pop-up), select the group you've just created and explode it... Now, you can get rid, by deleting, the portion you do not want... I hope this helps. Cheers, Diego -

I'm wondering if you had some invalid geometry that was automatically fixed upon saving the file, thereby deleting it. I am guessing this because the first screenshot is not perfect, looking like there could be something invalid there. And the missing box has happened to me before where SU descided a line is invalid and it deletes it, there by leaving a hole. Its easy to fix by redrawing the needed lines. Chris

Thank you, James, I watched the video before but had forgotten it, as I had not come across a way to use it. Now I can. Still I don't know how to "clone a face". There is no clone in SU Help. If I simply make a copy with the move tool the resulting object is the same as any other in regards to how the texture works. I got what I wanted. I did edit a copy of the texture. Then I put it on a rectangle, and set the texture to projected. Then I sampled it with the paint tool and it evenly covered the warped shape. I didn't like the angle, so I rotated the texture on the rectangle and reapplied. Thanks.

52 MB sounds drastically big for a model of an office, unless you've modelled every paper clip. Did you purge the model of all unwanted components and materials?

Th only options are to click on the object you want to orbit around with the wheel (sometimes you may need to pan into a better position for this) and to use the Alt key to temporar get rid of "gravity" orbiting.

Unfortunately even when the option Jame mentioned is turned ON, the continuous line drawing wont go on when you have just finished to close a face for instance and there is no way you can force/encourage/suggest/hint SU to continue drawing.

Wow, that little trick ("option click" on my Mac) is great. Thanks. I would normally start with the floor plan, but in this case I don't know, and don't need to know, the exact size of the building or its height, just the critical dimensions around this wall, chimney and roof. I figured it would be easier if I could just draw the important stuff and let the rest sort itself out. Best, Jim

Thank you. I added a line beneath the sill. I realized that I had made my component mostly of groups and I don't think that they help describe the cutting plane. I had a hell of a time working out the axes for the first time, even after watching videos. Now have a usable window. Right, Once I got the component to cut, instead of punching the hole with push-pull, there was nothing at the jambs. I added that in the component too. Fun but time consuming at first (this SU program is). I think I have most of the questions answered, the rest will fall into place. Thanks Again!

@pbacot said: how does one create the evenly warped surface in the example? Actually, in this case it wasn't so hard - the whole structure is made of strips that correspond to 5 degree rotations (of the central "layer"). The Soapskin & Bubble Ruby looks really nice though. For me, the important thing was when I realized that I could rotate the edge of many different rectangles at once. First, I made a single rectangle that was as wide as I wanted the 5 degree strip to be, but 1/6th as wide in the other direction. Then I copied it so that there were 6 of those touching so that they glue together. Then I drew a single line across one long edge, selected this and rotated it by 5 degrees. Then I copied this 5 times to get the stack, selected the whole stack, copied it and moved it and rotated it by 5 degs so that it almost connected. Then I had to by hand move the end points slightly on the original strip (and in the end all of the triangle vertices as described above) so that they connected well with the new strip. Then I discarded the new strip (it was just a template) and copied and rotated the old one (then copied two and rotated two, etc. etc.). Thats a lot of words, but actually fairly fast in the end. Attached is as new and improved section (as per the suggestions of Alan Fraser) as well as the beginnings of a new one (with 5 rather than 6 segments) in case my description made no sense. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! Twisted_erased_2.skp
