      Hi,

Why can't the component "Window Case 3" in the attached file cut-out a surface? Note location of axes.

      1. Why when I "name" a component the name does not appear as name in Entity window, but as description.
      2. is it possible to get back to the "create component" drop down window after the component is created. This allows you to do the "gluing plane" visually.

(Don't pay attention to the correctness of the window muntins. I'm changing it!)

      Thanks,

You need to CLOSE the face your cutting plane is on. Draw a line on the window sill from one side to the other - this will close the front face (you can delete it) but will make your component cut through.

Note that components don't REALLY cut through - its just a visual effect - but that "hole" which is cut through needs to be a closed loop as well.

          Hi Pbacot, hi folks.

In the component, you can also hide the bottom line on the sill to avoid it from showing after the component is inserted.

Notice that, since you position the cutting plane in the middle of the sill, there is a gap between the cutting plane and the front face of the window's casing. You will need to close it either in the model or, better yet, add some faces in the component.

          Just ideas.

Thank you. I added a line beneath the sill. I realized that I had made my component mostly of groups and I don't think that they help describe the cutting plane. I had a hell of a time working out the axes for the first time, even after watching videos. Now have a usable window.

Right, Once I got the component to cut, instead of punching the hole with push-pull, there was nothing at the jambs. I added that in the component too. Fun but time consuming at first (this SU program is).

I think I have most of the questions answered, the rest will fall into place. Thanks Again!
