Sort of. As SU is a poly modeller, all you can really do is join the roof up in to loads of small triangles (as triangles will always create a closed face.) You can then smooth out the lines between these triangles (using +ctrl) to make it appear as if the roof is a single face. face closing mini tut.skp

File->export->change the drop down at the bottom to collada (.dae) Youll need SU pro for that though. If you havent got SU pro, file->export-> google earth (.kmz), youll then have to get the file and change the extension to .zip, then open it up and in one of the internal folders there should be a .dae file, that is your collada file.

@chris fullmer said: OK, so I looked at your model now and it is as simple as I explained before. Follow the step I explained and it will work. I can tell you haven't tried it yet.... So here's a video showing how to do it. [flash=639,508:3gv34453]http://content.screencast.com/users/clf23/folders/Jing/media/6046e45c-b94a-4ecb-82ea-b1cddc75214d/simpe animation creation.swf[/flash:3gv34453] When you export the video like I showed, it will create an avi file, which ic a standard video file, that your lecturer can play and see that you did indeed make a 3d box. Chris yes mate I made all this .. ! but my problem now is rotating the box about itself and stay on the table! MEMBER remus told me a trick of using layers but cant manage to make it work !

Thanks for the reply pbacot. Yeah the drawing was bad; did not look like a gable end roof at all. I tried the ruby you mentioned; worked well. This is what I have so far; close but not exactly what I want. Appreciate your help. fossman [image: lIkN_Houseroof.jpg]

Nice render. On the other hand, I do not care if my render is "something special", I need it to communicate and require predictable tools. Su is pretty good at what it does, and a quick, simple render (lights, a little bump and shine) is a plus most of the time. If however I have to spend a lot of time, fine tuning a rendering, I would miss a lot of deadlines. My decision of renderer is made accordingly. Now I am sure the priorities are different if you are a professional renderer, like Solo.

I havent experienced that exact problem, but occasionally i get groups (seemingly) randomly smoothing when theyre exploded. Seems quite common when you import things although ive never been able to work out the exact reason why.

Hi Joejoejoe, hi folks. A trick I find usefull when tracing over an image is to make sure that I have not enabled "Length snapping" in Preferences --> Model Info --> Units. In fact, I never use that feature. This allows more precise placement of endpoints for lines and arcs wich are the tools I use the most for tracing an image. The "Arc" Tool is quite powerfull since you can start a new arc at the end of the preceding one and get a "Tangent" inference to make nice smooth transitions from arc to arc. LAter, I come back and optimise the number of segments to lower the model size. Shallow arcs, usually, can get by with fewer segments. Just ideas.

Hi DTG, If I asume correctly, you are trying to click into the VBC / Measurement box to activate it and start typing, am I right? Don't do that. Just start the operation in the desired direction (you can even release the mouse or finish the operation) and type then hit Enter. Never click into the dialog.
