Cad Questions
-
Hello smart Sketchup people, i have 2 questions if any one can help.
-
I was told by someone in my class that it is possible to import a cad file into SU and have it create faces for you without havint to redraw, is this true?
-
Is it possible to import from SU to CAD without having the lines come in as a million different segments and the curves come in not smoooth?
thanks

Yes, although youll need the makefaces script from smustard: http://www.smustard.com/script/MakeFaces

Im not sure, youll have to wait for someone more knowledgeable on that one.

In regards to issue number 2.
I haven't found a way to import into cad without the lines over lines and breaks everywhere, but if you have a recent copy of autocad with the express tools installed there is a command called overkill. Just run it on the linework and it makes short work of cleaning up the redundants. It is a express tool. You may have to find your installation CD for Autocad and install the express tools, they don't install by default. I wish they did, there is a lot of useful tools in them.

Another solution for ACAD2Su faces is to create your Cad model out of 3d faces. These are closed polylines with 3 to 4 sides.

Don't forget to move all layers to Layer 0.
