Dimension tool with diagonals

Is this possible?
Seems to only do right angle measurements... ???

You can align the dimension tool to any (odd angle) line/edge just need to "encourage" it by first trying to hover above the edge and then "forcing" it to pull out perpendicularly. See attached and yes, it does need some practice to get the hang of it (and sometimes geometry around can be disturbing).
