This is something I was modeling some time ago, and it´s supposed to be Tiger tank tracks and wheels - still unfinished, though, but I thought I could share it with you.
Any suggestions are welcome ( but try not to be too harsh on me - it could affect my future development or so I heard ).

              I´m glad you like it.
Modeling wheels was the easy part, except for the sprocket - basic shape was made with "follow me" tool, and then intersected with another one.
Track links were made by copying components along the path - but on the curved parts I had to do in manually, so it was bit of a trial and error project.
Is there a plugin that could help with arrays on such curved parts?
              Cheers!

Yeah there is. If you go to the Smustard site and search for copy along a path. or click the link below

Thanks Toby, but I think it cannot rotate items as they are copied.

                    Numbthumb:
One day I posted a wish for a plugin that would id the center of radius of a series of segments defining an arc, but one that was off the global xyz, and not necessarily connected, or welded. Because I needed to array copy furniture webbing on a patio chaise lounge with bent tube frame.
Chris Fullmer responded with Exploded Arc Centerpoint Finder. Look up the thread, and see if this will be beneficial to you.
By the way, that is an excellent model, and represents a great deal of effort on your part. Congratulations.

ps. you can rotate copy by highlighting the item, invoking rotate and then clicking the control key. Did I understand your last reply?

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

                      Hi, mitcorb
What amazes me most about SketchUp Community Forums is the effort of many talented members in providing us with tools for expanding the funcionality in SketchUp.
This could save me a lot of frustration.
                      Thanks!
