Thank you The problem is that I get where I need to go, but I know that what takes me three hours to do, should only be taking maybe an hour if my SU skills were not so inadequate. My new year's resolution - take, actually steal some time from whatever I am doing every day to devote at least an hour to doing it right! This is why I tried to find some actual get in the car and go to classes, as then there is no way to say - well... maybe later. Have a nice evening.

Sounds like you need to look at your Safari [or other Browser] settings... and you Decompression app's settings too. Many Extensions will download as RBZ archives [just like the SketchUcation PluginStore toolset]. These are effectively a ZIP archive with a different filetype-suffix. This needs to be simply downloaded into your Downloads folder: intact with the RBZ suffix etc... Then you'll need to open SketchUp and use the SketchUp > Preferences > Extensions > Install.. button and select the RBZ archive and everything is installed for you automatically... Thereafter you should be able to use the submenu items and toolbar tools the SketchUcation PluginStore toolset has set up...

This is strange. I was going to put together a model showing how I intersected the plan. I started by drawing a box around the plan as drawn(2d). I then move/copied the the plan/rectangle and intersected all faces. Surprise, it was fixed. This does not work on the original. In my previous post I was referring to 3d block pulled up and down from the 2d rectangle. I selected all and intersected selected. This worked on the original plan but isn't required on the copy. I have no idea why, other than it may close some ends with vertical errors. I'd be happy to learn something here myself if anyone knows what's going on. Slightly confused SS

If you want to do this with ruby, you should ask in the developer forum. If you are saerching for a plugin, Thomthoms Selection Toys have a tool for this... (Context menu -> select only -> groups)

Sometimes if you are thinking and designing as you go you can end up with bad geometry, because you've added a bit here and chopped a bit off there and scaled that bit....you need to stop and cleanup a bit before you get too far ahead of yourself. So find the correct bits of your shape and use those to redraw a new component. In other words, take the profile and the circles and their positions from your model as your starting point and make a new one correctly. That's why it was so fast for me, I just saw four elements and put them together. You had to think up those elements to begin with. As Gilles says, trying to fix stuff is often a waste of time when the parts can be quickly redrawn. However, there is nothing wrong with "sketching" in sketchup, but knowing when to consolidate a piece is the trick, and very quickly you will start to find that you are "sketching" correctly and rarely have to go back and rebuild.

There are just some commented files that allow you to understand ruby structure. Notepad++ will know it is ruby language and highlight it for easier reading and debugging. Try reading the SketchUp Ruby API SITE FOR MORE INFO Thanks for compliment too!

(this may appear twice) OK so general consensus is this client is asking for something impracticable. I think the best option is to render at 72dpi for those dims then up-scale as suggested and re sizing to 300dpi in-case the printer picks up on it. Slightly concerned im giving them a valid reason not to pay... On a slightly different note a few of you have suggested omitting displacement on hi-res renders. Something i find to significantly add to the realism of a render is the 'jagged edges' or at least not smooth, flat kirb edges and stone. I appreciate chamfering all the edges in SU prior to rendering would solve this to an extent but it seems a mammoth job..?!

**Here is what I do! (AutoCAD required). Export your model in 3D DXF/DWG, import into AutoCAD then flatten your model in AutoCAD by using “Flatshot” this will let your geometry stay 'true-circle’ and not collapse to segments. Enjoy! Vigy.** [image: ewDY_Capture3Dto2D.PNG]

@tig said: I can now see the 'angle' is the now-cut-slab viewed obliquely. So PushPull should work, provided that you have drawn real lines on the face within the component/group so as to divide it into parts before doing the 'push'... Guides will never split a face. Lines drawn on the outside of a container [group/component] will never split a face within. Either redraw the lines within the container, or select the lines that are in the wrong context, Edit>Cut then edit the container and Edit>PasteInPlace - now these newly added lines should split up the face they land on inside the container - it's now ready to PushPull........... We seem to be making heavy weather of what turns out to be a simple task Thank you Tig.

It looks to me as if the texture ought to be about 24" square but since it's not seamless and there's little texture to it anyway, you could just use it at any size that prevents it from tiling. Or, I'd just use a flat color to match and not bother with that texture. It seems to me that it would just add file size with little benefit. The other images there are neat if you need little tiny patches of wood but they'd be awful for most projects.

I'll weigh into this discussion. I recently bought a Macbook Pro with an Intel HD 4000 GPU to complement my existing one which has a higher spec option ATI Radeon HD 6750M GPU. They are exactly the same computer (identical CPU and RAM) except for the graphics cards. Tried them out using a fairly intensive sketchup model (approx 30Mb) and could not tell them apart. Open GL, maximum texture size and hardware acceleration all turned on. Rotating the view was fine, maybe generating the shadows was a fraction slower on the HD 4000 computer. While it could be a different story in a Windows system, for Sketchup running on a Mac the Intel HD 4000 GPU is fine.

@mrossk said: Due to costs and time restraints the holes didn't make it to the actual job, but it turned out nice I was just gonna ask about the holes! Yeah, it would have meant making a jig for the router then cut the holes out, round off the holes and then sanded them. Plywood is a pain in the butt to sand, I wish I had a router bit that could sand and cut at the same time- that would be a great time saver.
