    I drew a cabinet and made everything (sides, top etc) into its own components. I wanted to add an MDF texture to a side panel but it didn't look right, it was in small tiled squares. So I decided that I would scale the texture, but I have no option when I do a right click on it.

    I exploded the component and then I got the right click to edit the texture.

    What is the proper way to do this. Add texture before making it a component or make component explode add texture then remake it into a component?

      The right way to do it would be to open the components for editing and apply the material to the faces. Then you get the Texture option in the Context menu. I thought I gave you a link to a thing I did on adding wood grain materials to your model.

      Where did you get the little MDF texture. It sounds to me as if you might be wise to use a better one anyway. I might still have the one I used for this airbrush booth. I'll have to look.

            I downloaded the mdf image and then in sketchup I clicked Materials-Create Material- Browse for Image Material File- Opened it and clicked okay. I just noticed that there is a size box saying 12" wide by 11 47/64 high, should I have changed these measurements?

              Wow I just changed these dimensions to 8' and it did it no more tiling.

                Probably. I create materials differently so I'm in control of the size from the beginning. I determine the size before I bring the image file in. I'll look at the image you linked to and see if I can figure out how big it should be. As I recall, that one should be pretty big but I don't remember how big.

                You don't get the tiling because the 8' dimension is bigger than the faces in the model. It still may not be the right size, though.

                  It looks to me as if the texture ought to be about 24" square but since it's not seamless and there's little texture to it anyway, you could just use it at any size that prevents it from tiling. Or, I'd just use a flat color to match and not bother with that texture. It seems to me that it would just add file size with little benefit.

                  The other images there are neat if you need little tiny patches of wood but they'd be awful for most projects.
