@unknownuser said: ...since it hasn't been deleted or locked yet, here's the model in-game for anyone who was curious as to how it would look... We don't lock or delete topics just because a problem is solved! They stay here so that other people can learn from them and this way keep the place useful. Anyway, it looks pretty cool in that game! What is it exactly?

Another trick which would help a lot is the option of making it impossible to put two things in the same space at the same time. I don't know if that is possible in SU, but I note that in the "walk around" mode, you have the option of not being able to walk through objects.

Probably your textures are too big, try uploading the file without textures. Yes I see now, your plan and front and side textures are still in the model, get rid of those and you will be able to upload.

Speaking of components (only) this edit > paint also has the advantage that all the instances of the same component will be changed - i.e. you don't need to paint them one by one (which is the case when you paint the outside of their context). Looking at your example pics, you may well have quite a lot of instances of the same components so this (even with entering to edit mode then aligning textures on some faces) can even be faster that painting them one by one. Note that this does not work with groups but I also suggest that if you have more than one instance of anything "groupable", make it a component instead both for the above reason and because this way you can keep file size smaller.

Chris, No Chris, you are completely correct. I have that option in sketchup 5, but whenever I try to make the change in preferences to my special folder, sketchup does not follow my instruction. It seems no matter where I direct the components to go, they end up in the sketchup folder in my PROGRAM FILES. I hope I have been clear here. If not please ask and I will try to explain what is happening. Its the best way I can explain what is happening. I never had an experience like this with any other program I have ever used. It seems like sketchup has a mind of its own...... Ray

Like Chris says. I'd use "flightpath.rb" (Google it), create a big circle around the model apply the ruby (it will create a bunch of scenes) 3)go along all the scenes it creates and individually "zoom extent" (plus of course, update) export the video. This way you can get a really fine and smooth animation-video (just circling around your model though

With respect to your model size of 7 meg or so, be advised that the file size saved on disk is not a true index of your model complexitiy when you have multiple component instances. When you are actually working in sketchup all those trees are in memory -- a better index of true file size can be found under model info/statistics (with show nested components checked) -- namely the number of edges and faces. Some time back Alan Fraser posted a famous example of a model with 100 corinthian column components -- only 100 K or so "file size" but would bring the most powerful computer to a crawl or freeze. That said, the advice to put your trees on a layer and hide that layer when working is sound, along with keeping shadows and textures turned off until you are ready to render.

As Tom says, the view of angle (and the area covered by the "largest" third of the co-ordinate system) will allow you to draw on any of the 3 default planes. You can also use one of the standard views (top, left-right or front-back) to draw on the blue, red or the green axis (just push the button and it gets you there then push the "back" button in the camera menu bar to get back where you were previously). However this is mostly a handy way when there isnt too much geometry around to which the circle tool tends to snap easily. And also it is a kind of a matter of workflow - whatever you get used to (first). Eventually you can even rotate a circle into a desired alighnment.

All I did to straighten your foundation was: 1, Draw a line on the blue from the corner of the building. 2, Use a construction line to mark the point. 3, select the whole base face (double-click on the face) 4, Use the move tool and hold shift to keep it on green and you should be able to snap to the end point of the con-line. Hope this helps [image: Steps.jpg]

Sorry I meant to say SU pro. But your answer makes everything make sense, thanks for clarifying this. I do have pro, but used to have google SU 5 and remembered not finding anything. @gaieus said: You are saying you have Google pro (what "google" anyway?). and then asking if you need pro for your purposes. If you mean SU Pro (v.6) - then you don't need the pro versiopn for this. In SU 5 the sandbox tools were confined to the pro version but they are available in the free version since v.6 was released.
