You should be able to snap to any existing objects when scaling - it's the way you make an object fit exactly into a 'gap' etc... You can also type in dimensions when scaling. Typing 2.5 will scale x2.5 from what that scale dimension currently is BUT type 2.5m and that dimension becomes 2.5 meters. To get Sketchup to take your input as a dimension rather than a scaling factor you just type a units suffix at the end [m,cm,mm,',"]...

I know man, its a bit of an overdo, but first of all I wanted to see how it looks, and second of all, its a way of preventing such failures later on when I'll [actually] design, so I know everything works as it should (no dodgy, unprecise geometry etc...). Without this I wouldn't know SU doesn't like small scale geometry

Just as I posted this, I solved the problem made an an outline of the shape, duplicated, placed them slightly offset to create the skewed effect and used Curviloft to join them..Where there's a will.. t. @petropix said: [attachment=1:2fi3n3nh]<!-- ia1 -->compounds 2.jpg<!-- ia1 -->[/attachment:2fi3n3nh]Okay..hate to be a nag, especially on Sugar Bowl day..Scaling it up 100 x definitely helped. However, I'm still stuck on the 'angled step' detail. Please see pic. Need angle A at B. When I do a boolean subtract, the curved facets/faces/surfaces/geometry disappears. Damn tricky! t. There are some issues with the full sized pump, too. I fixed them and made a scaled down version of it in the same file. A good way to to check is to make a component of the model and see if SketchUp reports it as "solid". You have some internal faces that need to be removed. See the first three screen shots. [image: 8RaX_GP1.png] [image: rLDC_GP2.png] [image: ldHu_GP3.png] They're not only internal faces but the sort of mottled look indicates there are two faces in the same space. The mottle look is referred to as z-fighting. After clean up the pump shows as solid and you can see those internal faces have been removed. [image: YGd3_GP4.png] If you are wanting to make this as three separate pieces, you would want to make three separate components and possibly different SKP files for printing. Do you intend for the glass reservoir to be printed as transparent? By the way, I think you would find it much easier to draw things like this if you turn off endpoints, set precision higher (1/64") and turn off Length Snapping. If this is to be a single piece when you finish, you could have drawn a section profile and used Follow Me to make it 3D and for no bigger than the final model is, you probably don't need 108 segments in your circles. If you'll be doing much of this you'll probably find the following Plugins useful. ThomThom's Solid Inspector. TIG's Solid Solver. GASPUMPV7 final.skp

@jerrymich said: I am wanting to extrude (follow me) a cylinder to a sloped wall and wondering how to get the cylinder to project to the sloped surface and not go through the sloped surface. there are a few ways to go about this but for starters, try something like this.. extrude the cylinder far enough for it to go through the surface. select both the cylinder and the slope right-click and choose 'intersect faces -> with selection" then delete the unwanted parts.

TIG: Did as you say, and that solved my problem and also got my slices in a better shape (due to the size of the model). I upgraded the plugin to Slicer5 and Im enjoying it even more Jean: And now I can atlast get rid of these colours ! I'm glad I made an account here, you can't expect any better support than this. Hopefully in the future I can provide the same support as you guys do. Cheers!

You get that AutoCAD message when the DWG isn't an authentic AutoCAD DWG - AutoCAD puts a 'watermark' inside the DWG... Weird... you can PM the r2000 DWG [zipped?] to me and I'll look at it...

@dave r said: At that size, no, it probably isn't tiny faces. That's probably the most common reason for missing faces, though. What happens if you try tracing over the edges of the holes, can you fill them in with faces? Why not model half the fuselage and then copy and flip the copy to make the opposite half? It would save you a lot of work. No, I guesss its not tiny faces. Yes, I can trace over the missing faces. But If I skin the whole model, I end up with about 200 holes, I have to close... I tried modeling half the fuselage, but Curviloft produces a rounded edge on the inside of the fuselage, where I would joint the two halfs together. If I do that, I end up with a thick dark line in the middle, as soon as I put the two halfs together.

AND, make component instead of groups, and rotate copy so every modification on one instance is reported on the others. ANd the size of your file will seriously decrease, less weight, less work... Also you are modeling under the origin, any reason? [image: C5SE_Dome1.png]
