You can choose the Curviloft menu item "generate the junction edges (no face)" that gives you just the ancillary rails and your original rails. Then modify a rail and run curviloft again. Maybe that will work for you.

Yes. there is. The layer(s) are probably locked so you need to unlock them first by clicking on the padlock icons in the Layers inspector. Then you can double click on the text box and edit to your heart's content.

It seems like the 3ds file is very small, or more to the point the importer is seeing it very small. I know absolutely nothing about how 3ds files are put together. But I see now that even with the import units set to Kilometers it isn't very big. I suspect it is simply that the tail is too small for the faces to form correctly in SU. Sketchup has problems forming very small faces, they can exist once formed but many times you need to scale things up to create them then down again. Perhaps if you scale the 3ds file up before you try to import it.

What do you mean by the possibility of hiding the photograph has disappeared. You can certainly do that. Just go to the Edit tab of Styles and click on the blue cube icon. Modify the style to hide what you need to hide.

You can use proper animation if you search for a free plugin. Some others are compared here.

Hi Cheem, hi folks. After you change the Guides color in Styles, don't forget to update the style using the icon that looks like two curved arrows chasing each other. Just ideas.

I made it symmetrical about the Y axis [green] plane so the two halves ARE matching and 'consistent': based on the right-side which I sliced off and copied/mirrored. It may be that you didn't model the right-half exactly axially, so the parts are askew. Certainly the two sides has slight variations, but so slight it looked like sloppy modeling and not a minor variant on one side only... Since no one but you can know what you think it ought to look like, then I suggest you adjust the SKP I have given you to suit your desires. You can easily rotate its geometry so that the right side is say axial on the red X plane, or any way you want it to be. Then draw a large temporary face as a vertical plane on the Y axis [green] and intersect to make the cut line and erase the geometry from unwanted skewed half and the temporary plane/cutter. Then make a copy of the 'good' half [Move+Ctrl], set well off to the left side, and use Scale -1 on it to mirror it as the new left hand part. Snap the left part onto the right part. Now you have a solid object, that's reconfigured so its two symmetrical sides are arranged as YOU wish... You have spent more time discussing this that it would have taken to re-model it from scratch, entirely within SketchUp...

Have you set the permissions for the Plugin folder correctly? That's the most common cause for plugin installation to fail.

@shrockfab said: What if I want to texture uniquely like I did for the treads but they are a component. They will all change. Ahh.. that's the hard part, you have to make multiple textures of the wood grain. There's no easy workflow for that though, especially if you want to create render ready materials. Better be prepared for some hours of work.

I wonder if you've got a permissions issue with the parent folder of your components folder. You might look into that and make sure you have full permissions granted. The reversed faces thing is a fundamental concept in SketchUp. Faces have a front and a back face. The blue color is your current style's back face color. Select those faces, context click and choose Reverse faces to correct the orientation. [image: L2Tc_Screenshot-2_15_20146_47_27PM.png] What's with this weird bit at the ends of that long bar? Both ends show this misalignment.

@ricp55 said: These videos are great for creating a floor plan from an image. I am looking to draft a floor plan from my own ideas for a home. Thanks! Then you can just start by drawing the rectangles to scale. Usually begin making the exterior wall line myself. You can just draw lines, but sometimes drawing rectangles and joining them up is faster. Then you you can offset the lines for the walls. People usually group walls, floors, and ceilings separately so that you can assign them to different layers and hide them separately while working. It is common to also group the exterior walls separate from the interior walls. Use the tape measure tool to help in laying out walls and openings as you go. It might be good practice to work on the 2d plan (as it sounds like you are hoping to do) first before you go into modeling the heights.

I worked on this for almost an hour until I found this little tip. I'm so grateful I went through the whole registration process just to say thanks. With all the great content I'm seeing I am glad I did. Thanks again, Onyx @chris fullmer said: Its also possible the object is glued to a certain plane. you can right-click on it and select "unglue" and then it will be free to move about on all axes.
