@chris fullmer said: Do you ever turn off any plugins through the extensions list in the preferences menu? Hi Chris, I don't think I have ever turned on the "Google Earth Ocean Modeling" extension. Also, while we're on the subject of the Extensions list, the description of the "Ruby Script Examples" is out of date; in v7 it describes three tools (Draw->Box, Plugins->Cost and Camera->Animations) and omits Point At Center (in contextmenu.rb), linetool.rb, and selection.rb. I suspect Google didn't update it in the v7 release because it would have meant updating all the translation files too, which key their translation entries from the exact English text. If they leave the English alone, nothing breaks and everything is uniformly out of date and the workaround is to "tick every checkbox in the list" to be able to get Point At Center enabled. Myself, I find that sloppy. Understandable, but sloppy. Also, do any of the plugin developers use this feature? Are there any plugins besides the ones Google provides in the installation that actually use this feature? I'm writing an article on how to use it and if anyone already does, I'd like to mention either the developer or their scripts by name.

I just got a program from here http://www.kissmyimage.com/en/download/ It will keep the pixel size of an image the same but reduce the file size to one you input. I am using it for panoramas on virtual tours and it is amazing. I am dropping files from 3mb to 900kb without any noticable difference. There is a free version with a very small water mark. Full version is cheap. I highly recommend this, the people on the panorama forums say it is way better than what PS can do.

Thanks Jakob, I think you're right but I didn't realise I had to explode the 'parent' component... If this is the case, i think i would rather build the component to cut the external wall and just draw a rectangle at the intersection of the inner face of the wall and delete the face... that way if you need to remove the component, at least the out wall will re-build on deletion...

@gaieus said: Hi Andrew, Jim has a plugin that adds a layer which is hidden on all scenes by default: http://sketchuptips.blogspot.com/2007/08/add-hidden-layer.html As Gaieus says... Jim's script lets you make a new layer that is NOT visible on any scenes/pages. You need to switch it on in the desire scene/page(s) and 'update' that/those scene/page(s) to suit... .

Two ideas come to mind. The first is to create the center line for the roof support tube and use TubeAlongPath.rb to create a second tube that has a larger radius to meet the sail. The problem of course is that you don't want the resulting faces too close to the tube component because at some viewing distance you'll get the Z fighting flicker. You could hide the faces of the tube under the fabric to prevent this. Another thought would be to draw the edges of the fabric directly in the tube component. Then the exposed parts of the tube would get painted tube color and the rest to look like the fabric. I guess it depends upon what you have to do with the parts later.

Oh, that's so true! Every model done (finished or not..) and the model folder is full with every step imaginable of the entire "development history" - for now, a manual process. This autosave configuration is a must have, but I think that it must be integrated with Sketchup. And yes, I too think that crashes are related to certain operations when saving, like plugins.

i'd love to get on that invite list. I have trouble with snap as well. Often times i can't get objects or windows to size exactly as i like. It seems as though the setting do not allow granularity of window size beyond say a few centimeters in some cases. This is problematic when one is trying to be exact with placement of scrapbook items and or text positioning. my two cents, Larry
