Ruby Uninstaller - Is it needed...?
-
Hi guy,
With the juggernaut of rubies hitting this place lately I don't know what I use most!!! So it got me thinking: is it reasonable to suggest that we need a Ruby un-installer? I know that most scripts are single files, but of as they become more intricate, we have multiple files and folder....Not sure if or how it could be done, but I think it would help with keeping the UI clean...
I look forward to your comments.
Have a good one. -
What do you think of the "Extensions" set up as it currently is? Do you ever turn off any plugins through the extensions list in the preferences menu?
I have my own views on it, and I'm interested in what others think.

I would like a ruby unstaller. Maybe if there was some way one could tell which ruby were still running and the ruby that were shut down. In addition, be able to uninstall a ruby without stopping and starting Sketchup.
Right now, I change the extension to "KLE". This doesn't allow the ruby to run the next time, however, this take a lot of on and off of Sketchup to determine the problem ruby.
Right now I have a problem making components, I haven't been able to determine what ruby is causing this problem.
So yes a ruby uninstaller without having to turn Sketchup on and off.

Yeah, I have one or two that do. Here are the ones that I have made that use it:
Extended Standard Views
Perpendicular Face Tools
Shape Bender
Simple Loft
3 Line ToolsThose all get registered in the extensions index and you can open any of them to see what it takes to register them.
Also, I don't install every plugin released, I try to keep a moderate amount of plugins installed. And I have a bunch that are in the extensions list. These are the ones I have listed that I did not write:
Hover Select
Free Scale (now Fredo Scale?) tools.
WxSU tools
Soap Skin Bubble
House BuilderI'm sure are more out there. I have put some of mine in there and some not. No real reason either way. When I update all my scripts someday, I'd like to get them all registered in the extensions index, just for people who actually do use the feature.

Hi Chris,I don't think I have ever turned on the "Google Earth Ocean Modeling" extension.
Also, while we're on the subject of the Extensions list, the description of the "Ruby Script Examples" is out of date; in v7 it describes three tools (Draw->Box, Plugins->Cost and Camera->Animations) and omits Point At Center (in contextmenu.rb), linetool.rb, and selection.rb.
I suspect Google didn't update it in the v7 release because it would have meant updating all the translation files too, which key their translation entries from the exact English text. If they leave the English alone, nothing breaks and everything is uniformly out of date and the workaround is to "tick every checkbox in the list" to be able to get Point At Center enabled. Myself, I find that sloppy. Understandable, but sloppy.
Also, do any of the plugin developers use this feature? Are there any plugins besides the ones Google provides in the installation that actually use this feature? I'm writing an article on how to use it and if anyone already does, I'd like to mention either the developer or their scripts by name.
