RE: Dimension Style Questions
Thanks for the offer. I will take you up on that some time. Probably when you wind up being super busy
. I am going to play with it for now, as it seems that some of the dimensioning frustrations I have been addressed with this latest release.

RE: Dimension Style Questions
Thanks Dave!
I could not find that answer at the official help center. Are there any tutorials for dimensions in LO 2016 -
Dimension Style Questions
Can the distance the dim extension line extends past the dimension line be adjusted? and how?
Can the offset distance between the text and the dimension line be adjusted? and how?

RE: SketchUp 2016 is here....
I'm disappointed that after years of maintenance and upgrade fees, there are no native tools for parametric modeling (like profile builder 2) or interior lighting options. Having the ability to use third party plugins is great, but having to pay upgrade fees and not have increased modeling options is a bit of a stinker.

RE: SketchUp 2016 is here....
Boy this is tough. I want to be excited about this version, but....
It's like having a bad holiday meal at your Mom's house. You do not want to tell your Mom she cooked a stinker. You don't want her mad or embarrassed. You don't want to get scolded by your siblings for telling the truth that most everyone is thinking. You shudder at the notion your friends will think you are a jerk for saying something. But, this has been happening for the past several holidays. Somebody has to tell Mom, right? Hey Mom, you have done better and I was really looking forward to your legendary cooking. I mean you spent a lot of money and time on it, but this meal was not good at all. Then comes the other truth that you don't want to admit. Your Mom has been losing her hearing.
How was the holiday meal?
You answer
and run for cover.

RE: License issues for 2016
Maintenance support responded by email with new License Number. Never received an updated email for new release and associated license info. Resolved tho. Now I have to get used to fly out dialogue boxes

License issues for 2016
After paying for the subscription this past August, I immediately received a payment verification email and an additional email containing serial number and authorization code. Turns out they do not work for 2016 release. I have been on hold waiting for SU team member for nearly an hour.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Trimble Renewal Fee
Does anyone know if SU/LO will be getting an extensive overhaul in the next major release? The renewal fee this time around is over 25% higher than last year.
I hope it's justified.

RE: [REQ] Documentation Plugin
The LO concept is fabulous.
Dimensions and annotations are underwhelming. I have in the past asked on this forum if LO users were satisfied with LO dimension features. I think only one person except myself felt dimensioning was unsatisfactory in LO. This thread gives me hope that maybe some of you forum power users might get noticed by the Trimble team and a dialogue for real documentation tools can move forward.
I simply cannot transition any meaningful condoc work to LO. I would like to, but for the level of detail that my work needs, LO is too time consuming. I am still very disappointed with LO dimension and annotation features.

RE: Shed Roof
Kris's shed reminds me of an architect friend who was excited about his first home that had a detached garage. The garage listed about 15 degrees, and he was certain that it would collapse within his first year of ownership. He figured he would get a new garage with an insurance claim. Well, that garage had to be torn down 25 years later and it took alot of effort. I think it had the same "structutral" paint that Kris's shed has.

The panel between glass areas in a curtain wall facade is called a "spandrel."

I'm sorry, stfo1, but I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying the hook-like symbols mark the top of the stair? I'm not trained to read floor plans but I would intuit that rather than vertical they'd be horizontal. If that's what they are, altough I could think of a few better symbols than those if it were my choice.
I am certain that what is delineated is a stair. In a residence such as you are studying, it was rather common that servants used a separate set of stairs to perform their chores. Using the main stair was largely unacceptable. The drawings use conventional drafting to depict a winding stair. For a stair of this nature "pie" shaped treads are at both the top and bottom. See attached photo for the bottom of such a staircase.
As to bells and hooks, it is uncommon to show such details on a plan as you are studying. Typically plans like this shown room arrangements, major structural elements, fenestration, doors and stairs.

RE: Help understanding Victorian floor plan.
I believe item 4 as noted in original post is a servants staircase to the first floor from the ground floor. Very steep with treacherous winders at the top and bottom of the run. If you look at the first floor plan the top of the stair is in the linen area on that area of the plan. There is a separate steep stair from the first floor to the second floor for servants from the linen area to the closet area above.

RE: LO odd behavior: hatch problem
I think the problem I had recently is similar. It seemed to be a "z" fighting issue. My layout scene would not match my SU scene. After 5 hours of trying different things with styles etc., the problem was solved when I put 1/16" distance between the two groups in question. Maybe if it does not mess up the purity of your base model, try something similar.
