    • RE: Texture File Question

      I'll add some more detail.

I imported a jpg as an image into a new SU file. I sized it for it's intended purpose. In this case it is horizontal lap siding with 6" exposure. I explode the image and it shows up in the >in model panel, along with 8 other colors/textures. Why the other stuff shows up I do not know. Any thoughts on that?

I deleted the unwanted colors that appeared in the >in model panel, with only the material/texture that I wanted remaining. I then created a sample folder on the desktop using the create a new folder option. When I use Windows explorer, I do not see anything in the newly created folder (either jpg or skm). Unsure why this is the case. I nonetheless dragged the folder from the Desktop to the materials sub-folder folder in SU, and started SU again. The folder showed up in the Materials panel, but the material/texture did not.

Then I tried dragging the material from the in model panel to an existing panel "brick and cladding". It did show up there, but did not show up(either jpg or skm) in Windows Explorer in the "brick and cladding" folder as all the skm material files do.

This is an awkward and frustrating start to trying to build a library of materials suited to my practice.

Am I doing something wrong? or more to the point, what am I doing wrong?

    • RE: Texture File Question

      Gai,
Thanks for the quick reply. I did import a jpg and created a material. It shows up in the >In Model Library. Now, how do I get it to be saved in a collection either existing or new?

    • Texture File Question

When creating a file for a new texture, is it better if it is a .jpg or .skm? If it is a .skm, how do you create one?

I am at the beginning of creating some new specific textures/materials for a project and I do not want to build a library of materials incorrectly or more importantly - inefficiently.

    • Newbie Saying Hello

      Hello all,

I have been using Sketchup for several years now and just jumped into the Pro version shortly before the Trimble acquisition, and now on this forum http://forums.sketchucation.com/posting.php?mode=post&f=79#

My main use is for architectural design and possibly construction documents using Layout. Secondary applications are product design and possibly wood working.

I look forward to gleaning info from this talented and varied array of users in the Sketchup community. I also hope to, at some point (maybe even soone) be as helpful to others as many of you have been to me.

      Cheers

    • RE: Placing text over an image

      Thanks BAZ and ARCAD-UK

The layer hierarchy is good info. I did have the elements on the same layer, it seems that I was having an issue with the model style and the the background. When I removed the background in the model, the text was able to be seen as I placed it over the image. Seems weird.

Also, should images and text be on different layers?

So any additional thoughts and comments from anyone would be appreciated.

    • Placing text over an image

I can not figure out how to place text or even a leader/label as well as dimensions over an image in Layout 3. The image crops the text/dimensions. I have tried the move to front/back feature and nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
