I discovered a workaround, which is not as simple as a one button solution as Daniel Tal's, but its free and trying it, it seems to work fine. Not sure if it has unnoticed consequences, but it seems simple enough to reverse.

Any of you plugin masters here on sketchucation up to making one?

Interesting how this is somehow "discovered" and only makes it "out there" AFTER clipping plane was released...

Just for clarification sake, I didn't "discover" the workaround. I stumbled on/discovered the video by SUforyou (referenced above) when trying to find out more about Daniel's plugin.

Perplexed why, what seems to be somewhat simple, has not been made into a native tool after all these years of users struggling with clipping.

    • Clipping Plane Plugin

Has anyone tested and/purchased Daniel Tal's Clipping Plane Plugin?
Wondering how well it works when clipping happens very close up. His video looks intriguing, but his examples still seemed far from the object being clipped.

Seems to be working fine. Completely perplexed as to why it happened in the first place. I'll be cautiously optimistic that it was a one time fluke. Maybe even operator error πŸ˜‰

    • SU 2020 inferencing issue

      Just installed SU 2020.

I created a cylinder and made it a group (to try out the new feature of groups grips and transparency). I used the move tool and inferenced the center of the top "circle". I attempted to move it then to another object, but the inference points would not show. So when I hovered over an endpoint or midpoint of another object, nothing would happen and the group would not snap to a point.

Can someone please see if this is a bug or not?

I tried this same process in 2019 and it worked as desired/expected.

Now it seems to be working as expected in SU2020 as well.

    • RE: Anyone Upgrading to 2020?

While it will take a bit to get used to tags, the other features in SU are worthy. I love the changes to hidden geometry. This feature will be very helpful!

The automatic transparency when selecting objects is going to be very helpful as well.

      Pixero,

The lady in red with the happy child is a world traveler. She and child were visiting the Old Abe Trail Head in Chippewa County, Wisconsin, USA 2 years ago.

I also noticed them in renderings for a new facility at the Lincoln Park Zoo, as well as, the Obama Presidential Library in Chicago.

    • RE: Imported .dwg and drape tool issue

I checked the .dwg file and when regenerated, the linework intersects in those locations, however, there are gaps when the circles/arcs are simplified graphically, even when using autocad. So, there is an issue importing these elements

I did try Didier's projections and Thom Thom's edge tools and still having a heck of a time getting faces formed. Even drawing new lines/edges is not helping.

Are there any tricks in prepping the .dwg prior to import that will help?

      Thanks Dave,

This particular ACAD file is accurate and no gaps that I'm aware of. The gaps seem to happen during import. I will use cleanup and Didier's extension as well. Maybe this workflow will take the sting off of this.

      Again Thanks!

    • RE: Imported .dwg and drape tool issue

You were able to get more lines draped than I did.

I've been having this issue for some time. I'll have techs in our civil department send me the 2d site line work for me to build context for the buildings, and I wind up spending a significant amount of time trying to get faces to work. Sometimes it is simpler to just draw from the start, but that is not the best use of my time.

Thanks for looking into this. Any ideas of what might be the issue?

    • RE: Imported .dwg and drape tool issue

Here is one of two files I attempted to drape today. This is the one that is far less complicated, but lines still were not draping fully. I do not have access to the other file at this time.

    • Imported .dwg and drape tool issue

I have imported a site drawing into sketchup and it appears fine. I draped it on to a surface and numerous lines and "arcs" do not drape. I have run Cleanup and noticed some gaps in the linework that has been imported, but even still there are large segments of lines that do not drape.

I tried the same technique with SU 2017 and still missing linework.

Any thoughts beyond scaling up the line work, draping and sizing back down. I did attempt that and still large amounts of linework not draping.

If you like the camera position, create a scene. Then you can pan and zoom as much as you want. Then, reset camera position by clicking on scene tab. This way your camera position is "not adjusted"

    • RE: Sketchup 2019 and its knock-on effects

Have any features been added to SU since the subscription model has been rolled out?

Also, FWIW, around this time of year I would receive an email notifying me about paying for the next years maintenance. I haven't seen anything. So this thread actually prompts me to call and inquire how that is supposed to happen now.

Lastly, The Plugin writers and the creators of Sketchucation have been the largest influencers in my SU pursuits. Been using this software since 2010, and it has helped my professional workflow immensely. Saddened a bit to see some of the old timers not here on a regular basis, and very grateful for those that have remained!

If you don't want the orange <Auto> color at all, you could just delete it from the In Model materials.

I never thought to use outliner to check. Cool tip. And deleting from in model materials is even cooler!

Here is the file in question.

I did with the same model in another file use ThomThom's Material Tools plugin to remove all material and replace with default.

But I could not get Dave R's suggestion to work.

I think Thomthom has a script that removed materials from groups, components and edges.

      I'll look for that.

      OK.

When I select the "orange" color with the color picker in the material editor, its name reads
      <auto>. What is that?
