Are you referring to 3D Text? As rv1974 suggested you can use Flowify or Shape Bender although they will distort the glyphs. Are you thinking of wrapping text around a curved wall or are thinking of something similar to this? [image: 9to8_Screenshot-10_6_202211_12_43AM.png]

@matte said: I tried Thom Thom's (Version 15) to convert tri's to quads, but nothing is happening? I don't mind buying a plugin Its free. @matte said: I only know how to import the .OBJ files into sketchup. Use the OBJ importer included with QuadFace Tools when importing and see if it imports the mesh as Quads @matte said: I did a lot of "you must be crazy" cleanup of things, Cleaning meshes in SketchUp only reduces file size but tends to mess with the normals @matte said: So far it is working, I just need to learn how it works better. You are on the right track. Brute force it and learn as you go. I would import the OBJ into Blender and then export the it to OBJ because Quadface Tools OBJ Importer respects Blender Quads. That's presuming the mesh is quad compliant already. If not. you can convert tris to quads in Blender with ALT+J then export.

@matte said: Good Day, Over the years I have created an extensive Library of things to cut and paste into my models. It's large enough to the point to where I am having problems picking the "right" part in a timely manner. For example when I want to add a table light to a scene. Style is very important.... When I “open the folder” that I have all my table lights in… there is “70 or 80” to choose from. The way I input a “Light” now is insert them one by one till I find something suitable. What I would like to know…. Is there some form of an Icon viewer where when I open the folder in windows with many Sketchup items in there… I see what they are without having to open them up one by one till I find something usable. Thanks Matte Also worth checking out Component Finder.

@matte said: If I set it all up in MS Word as best as I can, I can copy past, and try my best to tweak things around. Seems to be working well enough. It's generally not a good idea to copy from other applications and paste into LayOut. You would do better to save the Word file as .rtf and insert that into LayOut correctly. If you later need to make changes to the text, do so in Word and update the reference as you would for changes to your SketchUp model. @matte said: But I guess my questions ar moot, as They will not sell me a newer version, I think 2017 pro version was the last time we had the freedom to do so? Do you mean they won't sell you a Classic license? If that's it, no. the only option now is to go to the Subscription license. That essentially went away with 2019. The Subscription includes more stuff than the old Classic license did and if SketchUp is a part of your business, the price of the subscription ought to be covered easily enough by your clients.

PS The centerLine part is not usually needed, once you erase the internal lines And the face is in a V shape, you can usually just move that up/down to make your rectangle.

Thanks Dave, I took your advice and just threw everything on layer 0. Originally I did not want to do that because I thought... layer 1 was at elev 1 and layer 2000 represented elevation 2000 feet. But I noticed each "topo" line was not one number bigger or smaller to the ones next to it. So all elevation layer data from USGS had no value in their layer naming convention. So I am now making surfaces of each step and extrude all of them (all 2000!) one by one and see what I get? Then I can compare it to a really hodge podge set of separate area surface tiles I am hand stitching together, and plan to slice up the mix at the same 1 foot elevation intervals and compare the two. Unfortunately since I truly don't know what I am doing the accuracy will not be determinable, but we will see if it is good enough once we get there. Thanks again for all your help, your advice is always "right on! Matte

@matte said: I'll have to look at the "Tag" thing, not familiar with that? I thought the color by layer might mess up images... Unless SU allows you to select individual layers and just apply a color by to layer to that specifically chosen layer, that would work perfect. Color by Tag or Color by Layer is a style setting that will be applied to all objects in a scene. You could set all the tag colors to be the same except for selected ones such as dimensions. As an example I set all of the tag colors to be black except for three tags. [image: x0a8_Screenshot-1_13_202111_23_11AM.png] One downside to this is if you use Shaded or Shaded with Textures as your face style, the faces also get the tag/layer color. That might get in the way of your modeling. [image: V743_Screenshot-1_13_202111_26_32AM.png] @matte said: I know how to color and change all dims to a color. I was trying to set a layer as Dim Red (Interior things) and Dim Blue (Exterior things)... It sounds like you are making it more difficult than it needs to be. Create layers/tags to give to the various dimensions, i.e. Dims Interior and Dims Exterior. Select the interior dimensions and assign the Dims Interior layer to them. Repeat for the exterior dims. Then you can turn off the dims Exterior tag/layer so you can only select the interior dimensions. Color them red in Model Info>Dimensions. Turn off the interior dimensions and turn on the exterior and make those dimensions blue.

Searching under LIDAR, NOAA has very good aerial images from a few years back. But I don't know how to get the LIDAR elevation data out or how to bring the images in at scale. You may need a GIS specialist to do that (locally we can download dwg files of the LIDAR contours). Here's an example of the resolution. I downloaded .jpg files of the whole island. They're pretty big. [image: jLYY_ScreenShot2020-12-30at1.18.10AM.png]

If Purging in References doesn't get rid of it, it must be used in at least one spot in the document. Find that and delete it. Then you should be able to purge it.

@jenny13857 said: ...share a screenshot... Shouldn't need a screenshot. Go to File>Insert and select your .xlsx file. Then choose the range of cells you want in the pop up window. Your profile says you are using SketchUp 8 Free/Make. If that is correct, you don't have LayOut to import the .xlsx file into. If you are using SketchUp 8 Pro then you have LayOut 3 and it doesn't have the option to import .xlsx files at all.

Your option and Peter's fog are good options. A third would involve stacking viewports which are separate by a shape with a transparent color applied. The shape could be a rectangle or other appropriate shape but you wouldn't need to trace the visible lower area and so you wouldn't need to worry about the shape changing if you move objects in the foreground. I would use three layers for this with the background on the lowest layer, the rectangle on the middle layer and the foreground on the top layer.

The only way a style could do that is with an overlay watermark image. Styles can't directly modify materials. You could make a single color image and add it as a watermark. Adjust the blending as needed. I used white in this example but a gray might be more appropriate. I set it up so the overlay only covered part of the screen for the example. @juju said: @shravanivanteru said: SketchUp 8 is a 3D-modeling program previously known as Google Sketchup. The program is available in a fully functional free version as well as a Pro version that adds more features. SketchUp is particularly useful if your business deals a lot with the accurate modeling of objects, such as in the architectural or design fields. Apart from creating your own components, the software also includes pre-built models that you can resize to fit your needs. Newly created components can be re-sized with the Tape Measure tool while pre-built components, or those imported from a component file, are altered with the scale tool. I guess it's a multi key operation, since I cant find a (select button, or whatever the key equivalent is for the "Left Click" button... I'm guessing the "left click" and the copy buttons can not be added together. So the best I can come up with is to first use the "left click" button than use the "copy" button than use the "left click" button again and than choose the "paste" button and than use the "Left Click" button again. You cant just put the curser over an object and pick copy, move it where you want it and hit the paste button. So instead of 2 button set of actions you must use 5 to accomplish the same thing.

Ok, Gang, Re-Verified - Icon size large option was checked. I deleted all older extensions, and moved all the newest ones to the proper User....Plugin folder where they should have been all along. Then installed them through the Sketchup extension manager Then I located where all the extension toolbar icons are that are coming in as too small. As mentioned there are a 12x and a 24x png image in each reference folders Here's what the GUESSING BEGINS? (Please let me whats wrong!!!!, probably everything!!!) Im guessing the 12x is linked to the Sketchup small Icon choice and the 24x to the large icon check box? As I dont want to mess with the creators code... I took a 24x icon did a (Save-As) and made a 48x icon in Photoshop. -Because it is more "blurry" I cleaned and sharpened it than saved it into the location of the developers 12x and 24x location. -I am guessing in the code it links to whatever the 12x image is to the small icon choices -And if you check the large icon "box" it grabs and uses the 24x -So since I have limited knowledge, to link the new 48x icon is out of my abilities....but -A can do a (Save-As) of the 24x icon and save it as (24xoriginal) so the paths will ignore it,(And I can put it back if it doesn't work). -Then rename the 48x image as 24x, so setup pathways will pick this 200% larger image. ????? How crazy is this way of thinking? If this does work, am I really screwing up things up? Thanks, Matte
