@nina792 said: HI! i was wondering if someone here can make me a big favor. Need to import this dwg to sketchup, but i don't have the Pro. If you open it, you'll see 2 equal drawings in 2d as a block and one exploded in 3D. I need just one of them; if its in 3D better, but if it's not possible i can work with the 2D See my post to you in another topic of the same nature.

TIG, Thanks for your reply and code. I pasted it into the Ruby console but I got an error message, although I'm not exactly sure of the procedure. Does each component have to be named in a certain convention for example? Ideally I'd like to be able to load an extension which then allows me to select the required components (either in the drawing or in the Outliner) and then export the details to a spreadsheet similar to the example I gave. The site area can just be manually input into the spreadsheet as it is less likely to change. The development ratio is calculated by Excel from the number of units and square footage. I'll PM you.

I don’t want to sound too cheesy (bit late?), but don’t forget that our Pre-Release period will close on November 6th. Sign up to PlusSpec Lite before this date and be in the chance to win a 12 month PlusSpec Pro license! Also, you’ll earn the title ‘Grandfather’, which gives you a bunch of ongoing benefits. For $10, you can try Lite for yourself. If you love it, brilliant! If you don’t, just cancel. Either way, you’ll know - and you’ll be in the chance to win the Pro version, valued at $773 USD.

Hello Kenny, just checking if you had already worked out your problem. I'm in the same need for a way of importing this new 3D imagery into Sketchup (or any other CAD software) to work with it. I'm a PhD student working with augmented reality applications, and this would be a great thing to work with. Please let me know if Google had made this available.

I expect the issue is that the CAD import is only edges, no faces. That's normal for a 2D CAD import.

Tig Thanks for the reply. The mesh was created by a company providing a 3d model of a site and context (similar to Zmap). I presume they don't use Sketchup to create it! I just used regular Drape in the end and painted each triangle individually. Thanks for looking anyway. Super Drape and regular drape do seem to be prone to crashing. I've sent a few models in the past to Google where the problem was apparent but they don't seem to have fixed it.

Thanks for the reply Pilou. I've not had time to experiment properly. I have all the roof tools and I still don't think I can do multiple gable roofs at once. I'll combine your trick as well when i get some time. It would be good however to just have a roof tool that can do multiple roofs in the same way as single roofs and be able to make any type of roof.

RATING: 5 Star This is probably one of the MOST useful scripts I use when dealing with multilevel models. It is a must for QA'ing your model and reviewing a model with a remote client.

@kenny said: Thanks for all the replies everyone. It would appear that at the moment I'll just have to put up with the slow performance. Whilst I could get a slightly higher spec it doesn't look like it would be worth it in terms of any meaningful performance improvement over my current set up. For the type of work I do Sketchup is still much faster and easier than any other 3D software but on large models the actual button clicking takes seconds whilst waiting for it to respond takes hours! It's very frustrating and throwing money at it in terms of equipment can't even address the problems. Hardware just doesn't seem to be able to keep up with how much we all push Sketchup. Or perhaps it's that Sketchup hasn't kept up with hardware in that it can't take advantage of the way hardware has gone with multi processors. Or a bit of both. Well Do what I do, have 2 to 4 SU sessions running and work on 4 different things. That way you are never waiting for Plugin X to complete a task Edit: Did I mention that I am a mild sufferer of ADD

@hkarakion said: any one can help me please... We can probably help you. You'd need to give us more information. What kind of file did you get from the surveyor? What version of SketchUp are you really using? Your profile says you are using 2020 Free/Make but there is no such version. If we know the correct version we can help you sort out what tools you have available to get the job done.

I don't think its too complex to be done. Especially if you just want it in 2d. I don't think anything like that exists already though. Chris

It's a false positive. Report it to the makers of your anti-virus application. The PDF documentation of Profile Builder is safe, I've used it since the beta with no infections caused by it.

Your network might be the culprit too, if you are printing the file to a network drive. You might try printing to the desktop or some other local folder and see how it goes. I often get corrupt image files when exporting to a network location, and they usually are OK when exported to a folder on my desktop. I am also suspecting the network for the similarly truncated PDFs (with some lines and texts missing) we recently got when printing to PDF from AutoCad with Adobe Acrobat, and that printed perfectly when repeated another day. Just suggestions Anssi

Hi Kenny, Sorry for not responding on the Indigo forums. A couple things that could be causing you problems with respect to using Indigo You cannot have duplicate material names in your SketchUp scene. The scene that you posted has 'Color_000' twice Are you using instancing? If so, make sure you do not have light emitting materials or exit portal materials inside instances. If you are still having trouble with certain scenes, please post them here or on the Indigo forums. That is the easiest way for me to figure out the problem.

I just imported the .dwg file. The "dasd lines" are coming in as components. Try this - select everything, right click, and Explode. Then, try close opens as you did before. Todd
