I don't know about the technical difficulties with using animated GIFs in Sketchup, but it would be another fantastic tool to improve SU if they could be included.

RE: Google and copyright infringement
@unknownuser said:
So tell me, if the SCF contains copyrighted material one day that has slipped the eyes of our Moderators, are we thieves also? Because that kinda is what your post says about YouTube.
No it isn't. SCF was set up as a website to discuss Sketchup. If someone does post copyrighted material it will be removed the instant it is discovered by a moderator. It's clear that sharing copyrighted material is not approved of and won't be condoned.
YouTube was built on the back of millions of illegally shared videos. It became a billion dollar company mainly because of that.
SCF may have a tiny amount of copyright infringements, YouTube will have hundreds of thousands, if not millions of them.

I think it is a little easy to state blatant theft just because they can't keep up with the huge amounts of uploads everyday. It's just impossible to moderate all that content. Well, they DO have a $#!tload of money in the bank so they ought to, but the reality of it is that it would still be a massive task.
YouTube will probably pay out a few hundred million to the major companies whose copyrights they've infringed. That cost was probably factored into the purchase price of YouTube when Google bought it. Viacom, Sky and other media companies will get a nice payday, YouTube will shrug it's shoulders at and see it's worth increase by $500m as this issue is finally ended.

RE: Google and copyright infringement
The reason behind it is simple. Companies like Sky TV and Viacom want to know how many views their copyrighted material have received on YouTube, and they'll want payment for those views. Like they could care if Joe Bloggs or Fred Smith watched their show, they'll just want the royalties that they deserve.
Google bought YouTube even though they knew the whole issue of illegal use of copyrighted material would be challenged in the courts, and that they'd probably lose.
It seems to me that people on here are against YouTube being punished for their blatant theft of copyright material, but I think that the same people would think completely differently were the stolen materials 3D models or CG artwork.

RE: How can I import a 3D SolidWorks design in SU
That plugin will import and export stl files. It's from Didier Bur's site:
I have no idea how well it works as I've never had cause to use it. There may be other importers and exporters on that site. stl was the first I checked for.

Lewis - You say that you must have caught Tom Kundig at a bad part in his life, but from your subsequent posts it looks pretty obvious that what he said was spot on.

I agree Todd.....I have a whole new opinion now. I love their vehicles and I have owned and driven many for many miles. They just fell off my list of good cars.

"CC holds all ownership of models (meshes) and all textures used in final product unless arrangements have been made with CC to purchase final models (meshes) at and additional cost to the above quoted."
The above is part of the legal agreement that I have ALL clients sign. I have never had an issue with it yet.
Scott
And this, for me, is what the issue rests on.
Did Toyota agree a deal with Meshworks to produce the model for this one campaign, or did Toyota contract them to produce the models so that they can be used whenever Toyota wished.
I'm struggling over whether this case is about copyright of 3D models or whether it's a contract dispute between Meshworks and Toyota.

Are the Sandbox Tools worth learning?
Beyond a few minutes of messing around when they were first introduced I don't think I've used the sandbox tools at all. Am I missing out by not learning to use these tools?

RE: Hi, need help with modeling a stadium
Turned out fantastically well. I'm not sure why this pattern is appearing where it does though:

RE: Doing other peoples work?
I must be missing the threads, because pretty much all the requests I've seen seem to be genuine inquiries to find things out rather than a request to do a model for them.
If I'm doing a model to show a way to do something then I'll do the quickest, roughest example anyway. If someone chooses to do an accurate detailed model that could be taken and used that's their own choice, but I wouldn't think it was a choice many people would make.

RE: KUCHOFUKU Air-Conditioned bed
I'm reminded of the show Make me a Million on Channel 4 a few years ago. I found some old links about it: http://www.prototypemagazine.com/index.php?Itemid=5&id=1&option=com_content&task=view

RE: 2nd life.
I'm pretty sure there's another book for sale as well because I remember seeing one on sale in B&N.
There was an article in 3DWorld Magazine about second life sometime last year. I'll probably dig it out tomorrow and give a summary on here.

The NHS is widely opposed to natural medicines and treatments because there is no money in it for them.
The NHS is widely opposed to natural medicines that just don't work.

If they spent more time teaching people how to stay healthy they wouldn't be so desperate for money and could help the people who really need it.
If they spent more time teaching people how to stay healthy they'd be even more desperate for money. There's practically no one in the civilised world who doesn't know the problems that smoking, drugs, poor diet and lack of exercise cause, but just preaching at people isn't going to make them change.

What's the point in having some tools in both the left hand side and the top toolbars?

RE: Hi, need help with modeling a stadium
If you go on youtube and type in stadium and sketchup there's a few simple examples of people making stadiums on there.
