For the cushion, how do you go from the plain shape to the creased control mesh? Are you using a plugin to deform the geometry?

      Art needs no function

I'd modify that to 'art needs no specific function'.

Artworks do have a function, it's just that those functions are more existential and abstract in nature.

One problem is that people confuse two different usages of 'art'. For example, when it comes to '3D artists' we aren't talking about artists who work in 3D, but people who practice the art of 3D.

Rich hit the nail on the head...that's exactly what I was talking about.

Glad I'm not the only one Box 👍

As long as it's in the pipeline and it's not down to me being dumb then I'm happy to wait for the next version....no rush Thomas 😉 .

Am I right in thinking that you should be able to enter a relative value when extruding?

Just trying to figure out if I'm misremembering this function or if another plugin is causing a conflict.

That's great guys. I'll check those out next time I put together a mini tutorial.

I much prefer doing and reading mini gif tutorials.

What workflow is everyone else using for their creation? At the moment I create them from layers in PS. Is there a faster method I'm missing?

Changing the background was bad enough, but why remove the hard landscaping as well? Now there's nothing to place the building in its environment!

One concern I have with all of this is the file size. This drawing is a little over 9Mb. If I wanted to include it in a kitchen or bathroom along with some other stuff then you could wind up with some huge files. Is this normal?

It's relatively normal and Sketchup seems to handle things very well these days.

I'll use SubD for various models in a scene, including multiple taps/faucets and various other elements - many of which may have quite complex geometry for the control mesh.

      Here's a moderately detailed example:

    • RE: Making Glass Objects

Another variation on the above method is to model a low-poly version of the object and then subdivide using Artisan:

I find that the results you get are much more fluid and naturalistic. It's also a faster workflow as you don't have to work with complex curves.

    • RE: Orbiting by thumb wheel

I would imagine that it would be very tricky to get the thumbwheel to only control two axes. It isn't just about telling the mouse how to function, but also telling SU to only recognise movement in certain directions.

Maybe it's time to invest in a 3D mouse?

Looks like these are the only options for the thumbwheel:

Maybe there is a way to hack the mouse with alternative configuration software?

Otherwise how are you getting on with the MX Master? I'm considering it as a replacement for my Performance MX when it eventually dies on me.

I just wish that when i buy a digital download off iTunes that you could have option for CD/Vinyl shipping too. I typically like to have the album in hard copy.

That's another good reason to use Bandcamp. Whenever you buy a CD or LP, you get an immediate download link and you can stream your purchase using their app.

An added benefit is that you are often putting money directly in the pockets of artists, without a label taking a cut.

.....secondly online streaming is about to take over.

I have a feeling that streaming will eventually lead to a demand for high-def music. It eliminates the storage issue, so you just need the bandwidth and something good enough to make the most of a higher quality format.
