@majid said: in sketch up to "select connected faces" that is a built-in right-click menu option Oh, man. I couldn't see the forest for the trees. There is such thing as too many plugins. Thanks Majid, I'd used a hotkey so long I forgot completely where/what it was in the menus after re-installation. Palm, meet forehead...

Would these books be sufficient? (I couldn't find a US version) http://www.amazon.com/Illustrated-Building-Pocket-Book-Second/dp/0750680156/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263501863&sr=8-5 http://www.amazon.com/Architects-Pocket-Third-Charlotte-Baden-Powell/dp/0750686170/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263501863&sr=8-3 Surprising that there weren't any reviews of the books.

Strictly speaking, scaling only "works" when the target object is symmetrical to all three axis. And that is a very rare situation. Look at your screen capture of S forms, EscapeArtist. What you need to do is not scaling, but offsetting, in 3D. Like Gaieus said, JointPushPull by fredo6 is designed exactly for the purpose. Beautiful, isn't it?

OK, I pretty much had to do it "old school", like the modeler in Pilou's video. Every time I tried to use some fancy tools like Blend.rb or RoundCorner, something either didn't work, crashed, or returned something unusable. So - it was basically "extrude" followed by "scale" and some minor fussing with the alignment of the resulting shapes, and lastly "soften edges". It's by no means precisely what I wanted, but it's pretty good. I guess I just have to remember, just because we've got all these fancy, fantastic scripts from the community it doesn't mean that the simple things should be forgotten. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and I appreciate the help!

I might have to reconsider my latest version of Selections Toys that add Select Deselect menu items for each layer in the model... Or at least put a cap limit to it for those models that contains an obscene amount of layers.

@alan fraser said: In that case, why don't you try pre-triangulating the model prior to obj export? THere are rubies to do that, or you could export to 3ds then bring it back in.. I did not know about the pre-triangulating rubies. I'll see what happens.

Burned it out? You know you're supposed to cut little pieces to size, not grind the sheet to size right? Lol, a new grinder isn't that much - heck, check Craigslist. Usually once a month someone is selling all their stuff.

Got it sorted out. I tried "Loft" but for some reason it wouldn't work on the curves (they were welded), that's why I started looking for the "Curvestitcher" type plugin. I tried welding them and grouping them separately so that there was no interfering geometry, but "loft" didn't work again. Odd, I usually can figure out what I did wrong. To get them to stitch properly I had to select each edge for the curve to be stitched in the same order, i.e. bottom to top, and then weld them. This got the stitcher plugin to do what I needed.

I know this is digging up an old thread, but at least it's mine to dig up! After having the issue of the sketchup.exe process not unloading since the original post, the issue seems to have resolved itself. What I did was to update/install several of Chris's plugins (of the "Chris Fullmer Tools" variety) that I had installed, and the Kerkythea exporter. I'm not sure which one of these scripts/plugins caused the issue if any, but if anybody else is having the issue and has some of these installed, they may want to try updating their files as well. Absolutely no other system changes were made (Windows updates, etc...). Using SU version 7.0.10247. Files changed: SU2KT component stringer * perpendicular face tools * Greeble 2 3 line tools * Scale & rotate multiple * Select outer edges * Components onto faces * new install, the rest were updates.

I hadn't thought that far ahead. I was just hoping a plugin existed like joint push pull that could be set with a distance/division modifier. I suppose if it were a plugin request it would be pretty much like joint push pull, extrude along the normal or axis of choice with the ability to select distance and number of segments either by "X" distance divided "Y" segments, or, extrude "Y" segments "Z" number of times. What the heck, throw a selection of taper by % or numerical distance amount per segment too, and that would make a fine combination of joint push pull and a little bit of Greeble too.

Thanks for the link. I'll have to decide if my being annoyed with having to hunt through my plugins drop down is worth the $6. I was hoping SU supported some sort of directory arrangement for the plugins without needing to script it.

EDIT: I'd be happy to make a video of it, what software does everyone use to make those neat video tuts? Is it free?
