Since my XP install crashed I had to wipe the hard drive and obviously re-install SU. The problem is that the SketchUp.exe process is not unloading when I close SU. I don't know what's causing this, any ideas?

Latest XP 32 bit with all updates for hardware.
    Latest SU download.

It is a common bug that is around for quite some time.
the only remedy I found is to manually kill the processes in the task manager.
Sometimes all these 'instances' of Sketchup tend to crash a PC, as they use quite a lot of CPU power each.

Should be fixed imo. (Am I still allowed to say that?)

I think I saw somewhere that it has something to do with macafee or norton antivirus softwares. They are at fault.

I am not sure as I experienced the issue on all the computers I use(d) and some of them were totally unprotected 😳

I don't have either MacAfee or Norton so I cannot comment on that but I don't have this issue either. So I guess it is not a generic SU bug but indeed related to some system features (which doesn't mean it cannot "bug" certain users with these system features thus should be addressed).

I don't have Norton or McAffee either, but I do have AVG. Honestly, I have exactly the same software on my system and exactly the same hardware configuration as I did before the crash and I never had this problem. I'll try a couple of things and see if I can figure out what might be different.

Interesting. I was under the impression that they had narrowed it down to a norton or macafee bug. Maybe I was just hoping....I hate those two anti virus softwares 😆

I know this is digging up an old thread, but at least it's mine to dig up!

After having the issue of the sketchup.exe process not unloading since the original post, the issue seems to have resolved itself. What I did was to update/install several of Chris's plugins (of the "Chris Fullmer Tools" variety) that I had installed, and the Kerkythea exporter. I'm not sure which one of these scripts/plugins caused the issue if any, but if anybody else is having the issue and has some of these installed, they may want to try updating their files as well. Absolutely no other system changes were made (Windows updates, etc...). Using SU version 7.0.10247.

                  Files changed:

                  SU2KT
                  component stringer *
                  perpendicular face tools *
                  Greeble 2
                  3 line tools *
                  Scale & rotate multiple *
                  Select outer edges *
                  Components onto faces *

                  • new install, the rest were updates.
