This thread was started to point out that the science of vaccinations is quite infantile and that you all should look closer at this science. Suggesting that you avoid the swine flu vaccine was a good way to get the conversation started.

For this sentence only i'm gonna give the benefict of the doubt in here.

"I'm starting to think people can't read."

Read all my post please. What's the focus of my post again? A litle tip: the conclusion start's with "So..."

"I have nothing against the medical profession. I have no respect for professionals that act like gods."

Have you ever consider that when you go to a doctor appointment and he recomends the X antibiotics, pill or whatever, it's maybe because, i don't know...a wild guess here, he know more that you in this matter? Study the same thing they have, have a little experience in aplying those knoledge, and then do more research about the two sides of the question to give a worthy opinion, and not another "absolute truth".

My boss had a discussion with me about design,3d,image last week (we're talking about the guy who discover that printers can't print white some days ago) because in the render i made for him, the white floor he wanted, were showing a little more dark in some areas. That areas were the zones where the shadows of the walls were falling...After speending some time explaing how shadows work (keep in mind he's an architect...) i thought to myself "whatever. It's not worth it", so i open photshop and hand painted the shadows white, so all the rest of the model had shadows except the floor that was completly white. After that he said to me "See?i was right, the floor is always like this, all white"...

Right know, you are my boss...
If you keep acting like that everyone else will do what i did: realize it's not worth it, and just say yes to everything you say...

I don't really know what's more amazing: modelhed aproach to this matter, or we all for even taking the time to answer this...

If you said something like this specific vacine is nothing more than a way to do more money, and the normal flu kills more a year than h1n1, for example, this could have been an interesting discussion, but instead you use your "absolute truths". It doesn't really matter what we say or show because all that we have is false, but on the other hand all that you show is more valid than everyone else's stuff.

Join this with the fact that your statements affect all the professionals in the area, with you not making any exceptions, and now besides beeing stupid it's also disrespectfull. For you, all that study, work, invest time and money, or just take pleasure of helping others are just here too fool us. Guys that study years, lose time with their families to evolve a specific formula and so on are robbers, the doctors that try to use the methods are even worse, and everyone suporting are dumb.

The funny part here is you using quotes, to justify your statements, of people working in the area that you show no respect for...

So doesn't really matter what we're discussing here (for all i know we could be talking about what food taste better) because your aproach to this is "i'm right, you're wrong" and "everything i show is true, everything you show is false"...It's not really a discussion since the original post, it's your statment.

A portuguese comedian said, some time ago, something like: "the freedom of speech is great, because it let us know where the idiots are". Man, that was never more true...

BTW: my mother is a nurse,i know a lot a doctrs and researchers and seen some stuff they've made for others, and my very young brother would have died when he was 2 if it wasn't for doctors and antibiotics. I also think there's too much hype in this h1n1 vacine...but not in your way.

P.S.: If you or any of your family have a crash or something (really hope not) promise me you'll do 3 things: 1 - Call 911 for help, 2 - Let them use ther "vodoo" medicine "stuff" and "knowledge" on the injureds, 3 - Shut up, and don't share your opinion about their profession, so that you're not disrespecfull for the ones that are trying to help you or someone you know.

Because you know, there's somethings a kiss in the "bubu" won't heal...

      modelhead

One thing is saying that you don't want the vacine for the h1n1 other thing is saying that vacination and medicine are like religion and, well as your talking, a lie.

I can't even completly express how wrong (to put it ligh) i think this is. I could like the others remind you of some diceases erradication, people that would die in few months with certain diceases and now don't, the medicine helping to improve human life span etc etc etc. Instead lets make a deal. The next time your grand doughter breaks and arm or the head playing don't let any doctor see her, touch it,or even give her any of those evil antibiotics alright? Will see who's the hypocrit and disrespectfull for others people life work then...

(i, by no means, wish your family any harm)

Whaat i really don't care if this is going to be free or not, because i want that so badly!!I can't thank you enough for this effort for the comunity.

unwrap3d has a skp importer (it's on the compatible formats list, in the features webpage) but not a exporter so that will allways lead to problems (we all know how sk importers behaves...).

I would like to ask you one thing if possible, please try to do the blender version also, as you said, just because blender can also paint directly the mesh on the unwarped texture.

A full featured uv mapping in sketchup...SEE AND LEARN GOOGLE!!
A big thanks to you Whaat

      i always render.
Haven't had one single project that the client didn't wanted render (or wihtout last minute changes...lol). They also, normally, don't know sketchup or most of the software so they don't care where it's done or how the basic output of each software is.
But i don't work exclusivly in archviz (con't know if that matter's)

Wow guys, great renders you're pulling out. I'm really liking this thread.
But can i ask for the ones using twilight to, instead saying the number of the preset, can you say the method of render?like photon mappping, ppt, mtp, bpt, etc etc etc. Just to compare results and see how diferent methods afect the materials in the final image. Thanks

If i'm not mistaken the BPT is better suited for interiors, other way there's no much diference between btp and MLT. You should try the two in a interior room with lighs coming from the windows with real glass just with sun to see the big diferences.

    • RE: Rendering Workshop - Studio - still life

Hmm, i still couldn't find a good interior (or studio) render in vue. On the other hand there's not much competition in landscape rendering.
I'm curius to see how Vue will handle that scenes in the future, but i really doubt that would be able to touch vray (any one notice that renders now are appearing like mushrooms??lol), and after seeing the article where they show how vue is used in the terminator movie, i don't know if they shoudn't, instead, just concentrate in what they are really good. Better be great at something than one more in the crowd.

To enter this workshops what's the limitations in terms of model editing, lights, and materials? Too much time without rendering just for fun...i'm missing it ๐Ÿ˜„

What render engine are you using?Vray? you're render looks too much CG for Vray. Is that with a sun source or a heri studio?

    • RE: Google living off the backs of the bruised?

I don't think google is "living off the backs of the bruised", but rather a incredible bad decisions in terms of project decisions.

And It started with them removing the layers toolbar in sketchup 5. After that it just come out more, at minimum, questinable decisions. From removing back bottons, not listening to users, not solving bugs, and the worst for me, the lack of diferences between the pro and free versions in terms of modeling. Don't get me wrong, layout it's good and all, but i don't want it and making users like me paying for the developtment of an another software i simply don't have use for, with people in the mean time having close to 0 new features/bug solves in sketchup it's just wrong business.

In the end, this means that because the program is basicly the same that it was 5 years ago, and there's no new stuff you could do then that can't do now in terms of modeling, texturing or animatiion, what happens to the "pro" users, like silvershadow, that need more? they move on...simply because, as good as a ruby can be, it doesn't do miracles.

And we know that it takes a lot of effort to do and maitain a software, and we woudn't mind much if all the other software stoped in time but then we see something like 3D coat with a price like that, doing complex stuff like it does, with a "one-man-team", and we can see something's wrong...

And i'm sorry guys, i also don't want a 3dsmax clone in sketchup, but i consider pushpulling more than 1 face at a time, selecting and manipulating multiple vertexs, a workable UI, sphere, cubic and cilindrical mapping as minimum uv options (not eve talking about unwarping), or suporting more than 3.3Gg of ram in the end of the year 2009, prety basic stuff needed in ANY 3D app, just to name a few...

i woudn't worry much about that hydra...
sketchup doesn't recognise or run better on a quadro ou fire gl cards...it won't even make a diference if you're using a geforce gtx 285 1G or a geforce gtx260/250 1g so don't worry about gaining performance with professional cards, because you won't.

    • RE: 3rd render

      hi stann_ph

      Nice start:).
You should look into gving some bakground or better yet use an hdri and that will give you better reflections on the materials too. Your white tiles textures in the ground are too big to look real. And try to give some light emiter on the tvs and fade out the colours a litle in the screen. And i don't know if it's the lack of something to reflect (like and hdri) but the metalic and shiny materials in the bikes and the engines could be more reflective and use a litle more work.

Hope you don't mind the critic.

And the cheap xeons you found were on a macpro?that's strange...here that would be impossible. But hey i'm in a country (Portugal) where the new iphone 32Gg costs 889,90 euros (1 314.04 USD)!! for an overpriced and obsolete phone?!?!that's crazy...

    • RE: The computer that's number one in consumer satisfaction

This is a war so old...and there's so much more, on each side, on youtube.
In my humble opinion macs have two things that make them better for people in design business, better use of ram memory and displays with better brightnesse/contrast. The bad thing: you can put it however you want it but in the end, it's not worth all the money they ask for it, especcially after win7.
I bough a pc this month for around 900 (i7 920 overclocked to 3.8gh and 6Gg triple chanel at 1600) and there's no way in hell i could buy a mac that could come close, even without the OC. And with the rest of the money i had left over i could put extra 6Gg of ram and buy a pantone colour calibrator for my display, completing putting aside 2 great beneficts of using macs, and turning a better pc even better comparing to the mac...

But this war will never end, especcially after one of the apple directors said that trying to buy an eqqual pc to mac would allways be more expensive. Why?because for him, we would need to buy a lot of software to be at par with the mac, one of them beeing PHOTOSHOP...lololol, yes because when we buy a mac, who needs photoshop, even elements version...lolol.

I even have friends that had a mac but had to run windows on it when they wanted to work...what sense does this make?
Anyway, i try to pass aside this, because i think everyone should always use what better suits them, beeing windows or mac, but that's something fanboys of each side won't ever understand.
For me, it's the better performance i can get for my money.

    • RE: Layout very good but slow. looking for advice..

      Hi bjanzen

As i said i still didn't try layout 2.1 and i didn't mean to be ofensive, so sorry if it looked like that ๐Ÿ˜„ .
I was just trying to explain what aadbuild may have faced working with because it remembered the problems i had with it. I'm not exactly the target client for layout so don't take my opinion really in account about this, as i never use the default sketchup output to present stuff without some post process in photoshop or a external render.

I remember that the biggest strengh of layout was the same as sketchup: easy to understand and use, without reading nothing i could use every tool and find everything i need, everything seemed really intuitive. So if you guys can give it a litle more "juice" to make it more a "general presentation tool" (more image based and more suitable for big final presentation boards) rather than just "3d sketchup models concepts presentatin tool" you may have found something for people like me ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sorry for the off topic addbuild
