    • RE: VRay render is always hazy

If photo realism is what you're looking for in a render. There are 4 aspects to it:

1.Model- go as detailed as you can .. round the corners and edges, make sure there are gaps between objects so no clashing between objects.

2.Lighting. Make sure light source is balance. Try not to do much dummy light. let every light come from a pre-defined source, say window, lamp, etc. Unless you're doing a studio render, decide which time of the day you like to project in your scene.

      1. Materials- In reality, all materials has some degree of reflection. leaving one without reflection will make it dull.- Be conscious also of your mapping and texture scale.

      2. Vray settings- try to go higher settings (not the default) add Ambient occlusion and use the in-built color correction tools in the vray buffer.

It will greatly enhance your image if you use photoshop. Even the best of the best in visualization use these tools.

Invest time in reading the manual and do tests yourself. you'll be amazed at what you can discover.

The easier way though is to download some render-ready models. and see the settings. You can even grab the materials that you like and include in your library.

these are the basics but there are hundreds of parameters you can experiment on.

    • Trouble undoing a joint push pull command

I have a model with lots of faces (less than a hundred) which i need to jointly extrude. i run Joint-push-pull and while the preview is almost real-time, the process took so long to complete. But when I wanted to undo the command (which is supposed to be one command). It simply wont undo and therefore messing up my geometry. Wish there's a better way to do this.

Excellent and effective presentation. Sometimes too much realism kills it. And I agree the 3d people livened it up! Great work!

      Use gizmo-scale to zero?

I hope I could made my point clearer. At some point whenever modeling more complicated models, somehow
the models gets messed up so i need to cut the half and mirror from the center to make it whole again.

But to successfully mirror it, vertices need to be coplanar and need to be at least in perfect alignment with an axis, say x or y.

Whenever I run "make planar". Vertices get aligned for sure but not in a defined axis (x or y)
Maybe there is something I am not doing correctly.

      HI Thomthom,

May I wish the ability to make planar along say x , y or z based on the active gizmo.
I always had problem mirroring when the vertices are not in their perfect x,y or z.

      Thanks

Looks easy to work with.hope it develops to a full function animation with possible render integration- even real time.

    • RE: [Plugin][$] Vertex Tools

      Hi thomthom,

Ive been wanting to ask you this question.

I think the soft selection of Vertex tools is awesome. The only thing is, Can we set the soft selection to select only neighbor vertices (within the specified radius) that are connected. I hope you get what I mean by connected.

The problem I face is if I try to select vertices in the front, the back are also selected and couldnt deselect it because its with the 'soft select radius', but those are not connected to the rest of the selection in front.

      Image shows what I mean

    • Impressed by capabilties of 3d modeling on Ipad Pro

      Hi guys,

Ive been watching a video of how a model is built so effortlessly with an ipad pro app. Looks so easy enjoyable and the app so intuitive. Hope SU has something like this to offer soon.

      Its called Shapr3d.link is below

    • Thickening surfaces while keeping the quads?

Using SubD, How do I i add thickness to a curved surface without losing its quad-ness? something like joint push-pull but keeping the quad integrity of the model.

The design of the house is awesome. I agree, The plants and rocks would be better in more random placement and size. Otherwise good. Just a thought. Is the fire tapped directly from the desert for fuel? πŸ˜„

I know you would, so we are waiting. But hey sir, If I may ask, Can I also beta test 3.0. Ive been a user of vray4SU for about 6 years now.We have 3 licenses in our office. I'd definitely convince them to upgrade once it's out officially. I already PM you my details.

    • RE: Will we ever see multi-viewport in SU??

I say Im using this trick 10% of the time, mostly on modeling single objects esp. for organic stuff. Looking things in 3d can be tricky, depths can vary depending on your camera FOV . Sometimes I need to look at how the wire flows now that Im so into subdivision modelling. Thanks again for your suggestions...πŸ˜„

Maybe you could achieve desired results by working inside a model component (entire model as a component) with multiple instances of that component all rotated about 90 degrees (top / front / L-side etc.). .

Thats very clever indeed. Thanks Wo3Dan
Now this how it looks like. My multi-viewport

      my multi-VP

I have always worked with one viewport. Im sure this will be helpful for me and maybe open possibilities of make things easier.

although... haha.. isometric wont be possible...
