    • RE: Creating a plaid on a chair - cloth simulator?

Something to do with the word "drape" would be apt for its intended use. If there was no drape in the Sandbox tools already--It can be called just DRAPE (IMO). Cloth could be limited to cloth materials.. .
Maybe also fibreworks.. just a thought.

But if we intend to create clothing (like marvelous Designer). Then CLOTH plugin should give everybody a good clue of what it's for.

I am loving this developments.. getting excited again about SU!!

    • RE: What is wrong with my ceiling?

Nothing wrong with ceiling Karllarsen . Looks to me like there's not enough ambient lighting.

proper lighting woule give you much realistic results. Just imagine before you do a rendering Consider these things:

      1. What time of the day is it your trying to portray? .. early morning, afternoon, night?.In your scene, there's the sun coming in from the window into the flooring, but the outside view is dark.

      2. If its a bright day setting , you need not turn on all the lights. luminaires light intensity should be managed

It would be good to start to "override materials" just to test your illumination. Adjust the lighting and uncheck override when youre happy with overall light setup.

You need to go through Chaosgroup basic lighting setup (there are youtube videos)

Doh! I'd forgotten that I have this tool in the dev-build of VT2... (Thought it was part of 1.2...)

Those are cool powerful set of additions.. hope will be available soon.. 😮

Quick question, can we maintain the curve after moving vertices?. i noticed that curves are exploded (unwelded) after you move one or two of its vertices... have to reweld them back..

does that mean WrapR failed to meet your high expectations?

You set the bar high with Wrap-R.. that's what I meant..

And the Wrapit video I was referring to was 8 years old...so that might be a fair benchmark to begin with...😄

How would this be different from the existing merge tool?

The current merge tool collapses the selection into a single point which is the average position of the selection.

When you want one vertex to be joined to one fixed vertex and snaps it into place. If we can do that, It will be great! (Snapping can be toggled on and off and radius be pre- set)

If only there is Retopology tool in SU...then we'll have use for millions of 3d warehouse models.

I was watching the plugin Wrapit for 3ds Max which was around probably the last 8 years.. It looks really easy to rebuild models to quads for easy editing or subdividing.

Many SU warehouse models can be of good use really if only something like this could be available to SU.

Just wishing here....hope some developers would ponder considering.

    • RE: Vertex tools

Vertex tools remain one of my most used plugin. It changed the way I looked at SU.
I’d just like to bring up my request if I may the following features for vertex tools next release.

      1. The ability to soft select “connected vertices” only and not all vertices within
        the radius.

      vertex tools q.png

      1. To be able to offset or inset quad faces. Same as native offset but split to quads. I dot know if it should come thru QFT or other plugins. But this will be great addition
        offset/ inset

3.To be able to merge vertices with snapping. Should be able to select which
vertices move and which one stay. (Maybe locking a vertex will make it stay)

      1. To be able to lock selected vertices. In this way well have better control of
Vertices that you want to edit . This could be an option if issue no1 is hard to do.

Well, as it is now is very useful. Just want to present this for the author's consideration..

MULTIPLE VIEWPORTS -(extra window that can be turned on and off)...I wished this in every release despite many people not convinced about it. But there is no reason every professional 3d software keep it without its good use! Its always good to see your meshes in different angle while you edit...

    • RE: Importing AutoCad to Sketchup Pro

lines you've shown are not coplanar. It is badly drawn. These are the few things you need to check before you import:

      1. Lines are coplanar (flat). If they are not, try to fix with flatten command (express tools)in CAD but may result in exploded blocks. you may want to redraw things if this don't work.

      2. the drawings should not be far from origin. keep it near to 0,0,0.

      [attachment=0:2dx6nkvq]<!-- ia0 -->calla-0UW.skp.zip<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:2dx6nkvq]

Thanks Oxer... it is how I would also normally do it using Sketch UV or by the native project texture . But there are limitations to this if you look closely.. Textures sometimes need to be stretched by UV mapping without distorting the map itself and this is what I want to achieve by unwrapping it.

    • RE: Wrap-R for SketchUp

Thanks Rich! I wanna start with this:

I tried uv mapping the calla flower but I could get the map to have the gradient green fade upwards to white.

      calla1.png

I think what I want to do is to stretch the uv to the shape of the red broken line.- if that's the correct approach to it.

      calla2.png

anyways, attached is the file. Appreciate your help!
