    • RE: How to Scale using inches in the VCB?

      stevierayfan,

Try entering the total desired dimension in inches only.
      IE:
Say....Original cube measures 10' (120")...Scale about opposite point....enter desired OA in inches(say you want to add 10'-¾")Enter this in VCB 240.75".

Iknow...Iknow...would be nice to enter amount you wish to add.........but

      Hank,

Sorry,I don't have an answer for you.
I will try to help if can, seeing how we both have spent good time trying to get the best from Layout.
Will you post a small file(s) that represents what exactly is/isn't happening? (.skp & .layout)
Perhaps........no guarantees......I can be of some help.

      So,?
Is there no interest to my earlier post where I clearly show 2 converging lines on the green axis contributing to the vertical lines off the blue axis(black).

Ck the posted SU model....cause I'm just saying.

    • RE: How is this possible? Please help.

      Sketchy,

I have experienced this before, and one way to find the culprit is to draw new lines on Axis....and measure from them to double check things.
In your case I drew lines on axis from the midpoint of the component, and measured to the corners.
Well the end of the component that is not displying the axis colors properly is in fact off the blue axis...........very little, but off.

BTW, I don't know how it happens...just does sometimes.

    • RE: Scaling a Layout PDF

      Gareth,
I too had some difficulty initially with scaling in Layout.
I am assuming you are talking about your SU model scale.
      A couple points:
Make sure scale remains as desired, after any adjustments to model view.
Make sure view is Parallel Projection.
Oh...& make sure printer is not resising to fit page.

Beyond this I would really be guessing.
      Can you post files?

    • RE: Dimensions Changing

      John,
I agree with Tom, not sure why the location of the dimension matters.
However.....making the model actually measure 6-15/16" exactly solves this.
Using the tape measure shows it slightly off of ****~****6-15/16'
      see attached.

      Daniel,
Thanks for the advice on the pagefile limit increase, which did help some.& much apreciated!

      But........and always a but......right.
On both my Laptop & Desktop I am limited to 4096 max. pagefile.
Given both machines are a few years old(2gig ram)....& not overly computer savvy......why is SU quick to use "vitual"/pagefile memory for such a task?

BTW Daniel......this question is not directed @ you...... just me thinking aloud.

      Hey all,

Thanks to all those that gave it a go, and any who have not, please continue.

Given the small sampling of participants & simple file....Results are more or less as expected.(for me anyway).....Varied, and it appears not hardware specific.

      I am no programmer....just curious.

    • RE: Are you 'good'?

"me, when i can model a person to the extent that you can see the folds in their skin and the whites in their eyes!"

      Well, if that's the benchmark........then I have to say I'm Bad...Not "Good" Bad...Bad/Bad. :~)
To meet that criteria with SU, I would use the term Exceptional......but don't expect exceptional compensation!

Seriously....For me, "Good" is proficient to model what "you" need in an acceptable time for "you".
      Thars me 2¢

    • RE: TextTag.rb

      TIG,
Thanks Lots, and timely as well for a foundation plan I was working on.(mid December)

In my drawing I have experienced a long delay after editing any text tag, I can't say it is any one text tag for sure.
I have a number of them, with varying attributes, yet I somehow suspect the delay occured after adding several text tags with bold text.
Not a huge problem....just thought you would like to know.(perhaps you are already aware) Or it is something else entirely.
I plan on saving the file in another name and deleting the bold text tags to see if they are the culprit.

      Mr S,
I too am curious about Google being quiet on this.

For the heck of it, can you try rendering your model with the sky & Ground OFF.
I was able to get much higher pix without them.
I know it is a workaround, but possibly rendering the model seperate from sky & ground....then re-marry the two in photoshop.

Definitely a nice presentation, thanks for the bigger images (and again; a nice model, too).
      Thanks Gai

PS: actually the image dimension limitation is 800x800 now though a wider image than 705 pixels will be cropped by the forum software on the left so after the transfer we will set the limit back to 705 wide.

Charlie, Nice mantle and sharp work,
      Thanks Hank

It is good to see LO working. I am seeing printed lines all blurred together, like the resolution couldn't be set any higher, but it was turned as high as possible. I was trying to plot 1/2" scale on Arch D, at higher resolution. I coulda done better with a crayon. Nevertheless, Charlie has figured it out and it looks good.

      %(#BF0000)[Hank,
As you may already know,There are a number of settings that can influence this...style...pen wt...export resolution...image resolution (if using images)etc...etc.
Can you share what style/& export resolution & or model to see if we can help?

Looks nice, but I'm not sure why you would need LayOut to do that. Was it just an experiment? If not, which features in LayOut did you use that aren't available in SketchUp?
      %(#BF0000)[Goggin,
I use Layout for mainly 2 reasons:
1.)Flexability of scaling on same sheet(Multiple instances of SU Model).
2.)Title Block and other page related info (I cropped off my Title Block in above images)
The Feature Not available in SU or limitation of SU is the 100" width. The Above full Scale Template sheet is 114"x36"]

Merry Christmas, btw. This a great little MB!!

      Goggin,
No Idea when they may drop the Beta from the Layout description.
Given the time that has passed since Layout was released....I get more hopeful each day there will be significant update that takes layout...out of Beta!
