I've got the same thing since one year now; Gaieus is right the first day is like trying to ride on a bike for the first time in your life and with your eyes closed.
But afterwards , I cannot do without it, makes my SU work significient faster and is quite cheap.I Could not agree more, once you have the training wheels off....there is no looking back.
Also noteworthy & I find useful,is the Space Navigator functions work with Adobe Reader...navigating a Arch D sheet has never been easier.C

RE: Privacy & the Upper story deck
@sorgesu said:
The picture says it all. There is no privacy either on the deck or on the lawn with these houses. Can you think of something that would work with the usual suburban bylaws and provide privacy for these houses both on the deck and in the back yard?. I know that we are not allowed fences that are taller than 6 feet and that is already what they are. I'm not sure but I don't believe we are permitted to build permanent structures on the side of the decks.Pretend that money is not object, I'm just conjecturing here for the fun of. Would I be allowed to plant fully grown pine trees on either side? I bet there are shadow casting restrictions. The backyards face South, BTW.
I'd be really interested in some really creative ideas. Don't spare the expenseSusan,
I was merely suggesting something that is common practice to my area.
Simply put,Privacy walls(No Glass/other) on ONE Side of each property.
Oh, and I know bylaws are usually such a riveting read, that you just can't put them down...do like I do, and read them in the "library".... wink..wink.
Seriously though, given your apparent setbacks you may already have a privacy wall requirement.....look for this in the bylaws.I wish you the best in your endeavors.
Edit:
Susan....are your bylaws for a private community?...try contacting the ARB...ARC on this matter.C

RE: Privacy & the Upper story deck
Susan,
This would require cooperation/expense for neighbors(unless you or whomever picks up the tab)...but you did say money was no object!
Please forgive the crude alteration of your image, but basic idea is to have a privacy wall on one side of all existing decks.

Nick,
Very nice,looks inviting.
Will the pergola slats be through(sp) mortised? or Ā½ mortised.

RE: Mouse question this time
Joe,
Have you recently upgraded monitor or other devices(new chordless phone etc) in the vicinity of your work space?
Some RF type devices can be particularly sensitive/influenced by near by electronic devices.
Depending on the wireless mouse you are using, try moving the reciever(usually the charger)as much as the chord will allow, away from the monitor etc.
Beyond that....are you in a multi-unit housing situation? (ie neighbor influence)My 2 nuts worth Wink

RE: Measure Pitch
Walter,
I do not posses a magic script (ruby).....But I can offer a Speed Square.
Yeah I know.....not what your after.....but in the mean time give it a try.
And if you have never used one before, it's pretty straight forward(see attached).
Using the speed square component, align the pivot pt and rotate until vertical or horizontal.(maybe a bit oversimplifying... I know).Oh, and you mention hip roofs, if working with a model just use the cross section tool & the speed square as above. :~)

RE: Layout Trials
Bob, Welcome
Try reducing in .25 increments (SU model) Line Wts, untill you are somewhat satisfied.
EX; 1.0......then 0.75..........then 0.50
I find there are no hard and fast rules here, because of paper size...scale...etc.Shape Style tab has a line wt setting as well.
EDIT:
Wooops...Almost forgot,
You will need to "trick" LO to get the line Shape Style to accept a decimal.
As Follows...Draw shape......Select Shape.....Select 0.5 from the dropdown....triple click to the right of the decimal....enter desired #Best,

I don't mind paying as long as the program is fixed and supported - neither of which is currently happening. Heck, I'd settle for some small indication that the program is even on Google's radar.
Are you part of the SketchUp beta group? If not, I can hook you up. Being part
of this group would give you news much sooner than waiting for a release to happen.Jeff
GoogleJeff,
I'm confused......is there another Beta of LO....or are you referring to the current LO Version(SU PRO).

RE: Layout and Text
Hey All,
I think I understand the question to be how the text/lines/etc display on screen.
Now while (in my case anyway) the on screen display is not an accurate representation of the printed result.
To put it the simply....if you are not satisfied with the way the model text etc. prints(too heavy)...experiment by reducing the pen wt in the SU model.(0.25)or so.
Try to ignore what appears to be missing on screen or in an exported .pdf..........just print it anyway.
Below 0.25 line Wt prints quite nicely despite how it looks on screen and in .pdf
Best,Charlie
