    • Combine Scene Tabs...Video Short..Request

First, all you ruby guys are gods.............Bow........And many thanks for all you all do!!!!

I had a thought this eve....what if you could combine a # of scenes into one scene tab.
Call it a "Multi Scene Tab" Like an animation short.

So "Multi Scene Tab A" might contain scenes 1 to 4 and play like an animation, but only from scenes 1 to 4(or more). Then the next Multi Scene would be selected to "play".

These Multi Scene Tabs could be used to demonstrate sequence or closely related info.

I'll leave the seed there and see if anyone feels the need to water.

      All the Best,
      Charlie

      Aussie,

Looks like the low side of the stair stringer is slightly out of whack [plumb] 1/16"
I selected the top of the stringer and copied it down, then stitched er together.
I left the low side of the stringer oversized to show where your your out slightly.

    • Drape Tool for DTM Roads

      Hey All,

I am working on a Terrain model created in Simuterra.
      More specifically :
DWG Contours imported to SU, cleaned up, improvements added, then exported as .dxf for Simuterra..[could not get SU to form contours].

Once in Simuterra create DTM export as .dxf and import back into SU
All is good.[some may recall me getting this file out as a .stl in another thread]

Now I wish to Drape the roads, lot lines, paths etc.........not happening, I got so many bugsplats I can't see the screen anymore![unreported as this machine is off the net]
BTW All Geometry on Default Layer.
Even a short segment of a raod {couple hundred feet]will Bugsplat La Machine.

      Some Stats:
      Model = 59.1 MB
      Edges = 568658
      Faces = 378421

      Machine:
      Hp pavillion zd 7249cl
      Intel P4 HT 3.00 GHZ
      2GB Ram
      MS XP Pro SP2
      Nvidia GeForce FX Go 5700

Am I just asking too much of my machine? [Intel HT only pulls 50% cpu]
Or is there something I have overlooked?

      Charlie

      Lewis,
Well I could not get .obj or .dae to play nice either...more bugsplat on the monitor.
It occured to me to ck out Deep Exploration Standard, as their trial version saved my Bacon once.
Well DE Saved me again it looks like. 😍
I was able to open an exported DWG and save as .stl

      Chuck,
How do you know about the limitation of .3ds πŸ˜‰

Thank you both for your advise, much apreciated.

That is quite an impressive piece of work you have done...Bravo.

Meshalab certainly looks like an option....thanks for the link.
I actually attempted several.3ds exports as well, and I get Bugsplat every time.
I don't know now.......perhaps my hardware is just not robust enough to handle this?

    • TIN from SU to .stl for CNC

      Good day all,
      Here is the situation:
I have created a TIN (w/faces) from contour lines in Simuterra.
Exported as .dxf, then imported to SU, all is good.

I Made adjustments to reflect improved areas on the terrain (flattened a large pad where Airplane hangars will be constructed)to name one. Things are still good.

Now I wish to have the entire site with improvements milled into 8lb.foam (CNC machine), they will require .stl file. They can drape 2d road/lot/trail info on to model, but I wish to show the significntly altered areas.

I have tried export to .stl ruby (small & large sample of file...just hangs fo hours).

      The site is 9100'w x 6200'h x 340' vertical.

Anyone attempted/succeded with anything like this out of SU?
      TIA

    • RE: Inference and arrow keys

      CWatters,
If I understand correctly, this should only challenge untill you have at least one horiz. & one Vert. plane drawn.
After that you can reference either the horiz.or vert. and then hold down shift to lock the inference direction.
I realize I may be saying the same as your OP,but after 1 horiz. & 1 vert. plane are drawn to reference, this seems to function the same as the arrow keys, only using the shift key to hold the intended direction.

    • RE: 3D PDF files

      Roger,all
I have experimented with Acrobat 3D 30 Day Trials each time a new version comes out.
The latest Version 8 seems to be the best yet.
While far from an expert with A3D(see attached)I will say if you combine A3D with Free DE Deep Publish (Thanks Anssi, going to play with this later) you could have a winning combination.

Side note: Make sure Adobe Reader 3D preferences allow for double sided rendering.

      Boo,
I have 3 of these devices(home/laptop/office) all PE.(edit...meant PE not SE)
& Never any problems with license.
As stated in the other thread, this is a good performer, especially with a multi button/programmable mouse. I find I miss it terribly in programs that do not support it. :~(
One bit of additional advice I can give is to set the center of rotation often/as necessary.
This is easily done, but often a source of frustration for beginners as the model does not react(rotate) as you might expect.

Guess the 3d printing is still in it's infancy (considering cost/quality).
However, I'm sure it will really wow us at some time in the near future.

I have looked in to 3d printing,(Zcorp) possibly an option for you depending on the size/complexity.Company software accepts .skp

Or There is a Ruby here by Didier Bur, I have not tried it.
