      Andrew,
I just tried to duplicate your problem and was unable to
It seems the mm setting stays in tact here.

Perhaps it is how you are adjusting the offset of the leaders/extensions.

Below is how I was adjusting them.
Single click to adjust both leaders.
Double click to adjust individual leaders.

      initial dimensioning

adjust 2 leaders at once/single click

adjust 2 leaders at once again/single click

adjust single leader/double click & inference point

    • RE: SU 7.1 Shadows drop between scenes

      Remus,

Ruby line you graciously wrote did not seem to work.
Though I did say I am Ruby challenged,
I pasted the code in the ruby console and hit enter, it appears as I believe it should without errors.
Though I notice no change in the model scene transitions.

It's ok, I'll just work it out with an AVI, or if with the client just use SU V6.
      EDIT:
I can of course just use the shadow slider & or instruct the client to do the same.

      Thanks so much,

      Remus,
Thanks for the quick reply, I am not surprised by your answer, just hoping to have all the cake....... :~)

The script I will try for my machine, but was hoping to send a very simple shadow study to a client.

Unless that will go with the file? [I am significantly Ruby challenged, among other things]

      Thanks lots,

    • SU 7.1 Shadows drop between scenes

      First,
Very pleased with the performance increase...especially with a old 108mb file I tested and SU 7.1 behaved quite nicely.
Also very pleased to see dimensioning in LO.

      So my Q,
I am experiencing shadows dropping out between scenes, and immediately if I orbit the model or initiate any other command.
This is fine and I can get used to this.[the drop of shadows on orbit I mean]

More clearly, I have 2 identical scenes except for the time of day, when I toggle from first scene, say 8:00 am to 2nd scene, say 4:30pm the shadows go away untill the transition is complete.
IOW, no active shadow study while transitioning between scenes.
I have exported to avi and the shadows do present in all frames of a video.

      My hardware maybe?
      Specs:
      Dell
      XPS M1730, Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000(2.8GHz, 800Mhz 6M L2 Cache)
NVIDIA SLI Dual GeForce 8700MGT with 512MB GDDR3
      4GB, DDR2, 667MHz
      320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
      OS: XP Pro SP3

      Anyone else experience this.
FYI I have fussed with open GL settings etc with no change.

    • RE: Sketchup Window too Small at Startup

      @jteselle said:

This is an old problem -- just wondering if anyone has a solution.

I am using SketchUp 7 on a Windows PC, with XP. I've been using SketchUp for a long time (since version 2) and have noticed this problem from time to time.

I set up my window size maximized on my screen, with toolbars where I want them. When I exit and then restart, sometimes the application window opens correctly (full size) and sometimes it opens up small. I can't see any logic to it. When it opens small, I have to reposition all the toolbars, because they have been moved around to fit on the small window.

Any ideas as to how to fix this?

Have you tried right clicking on the shortcut and selecting run Maximized?
Or is that what you are explaining you have done.

    • REQ: Project CAD Hatch

Ruby Request: "Pro-ject" imported cad hatch...IE... real Vector linework! [Layout__Vector]

Attached example illustrates a process where I Imported an area of CAD [dxf] hatch to SU. [50'x50']

      1. This imported hatch/linework is "draped" over desired model faces that I have copied & rotated beneath the imported hatch.

2.) Once the "hatch" has been draped to the rotated surface, I then orient the draped surface near its original position +.0625"

3.) This maintains the original model surface/face & will not foul the model geometry. [sorta like section cut offset]

4.) What I wish for is a process where an imported cad "hatch" can be imported and "pro-jected" to a selected face.......very much like we can do now with images/textures.

5.) A real wow would be the ability to adjust the pro-jected hatch......position hatch...etc. within.

      I know....but to dream...

Well, ya can never know for sure but I see the silver lining here.

How many were upset when @Last sold to Google?

Then GS free was released, many a grumble from the @Last paying crowd. [IE:woaaa... limited/no funds for development....SU will die]

Now it seems GS is taking a serious turn to Develop.

Well, having been a Pro user for a number of years, what I have read sounds like the GS folks have gotten serious about their little piece of software.

Nothing wrong with that, in fact quite the opposite.....perhaps little ole SU will wow us all again!

      bjansen,

Good stuff....thanks for the detailed explanation.

I would only add that if you would like to still show a stroke @ inner and outer shapes.

Before splitting shapes, select....shift....both shapes and copy to clipboard.
After splitting and deselecting stroke per your tutorial for the combined shape, paste initial shapes from clipboard and deselect fill from these shapes, then group the lot.
If necessary arrange order front to back etc.

    • RE: Question about Microsoft Word

      @daniel said:

      Charlie,

I've tried adding files that way, but from what I can tell it transforms everything into an object, and as such it cannot be edited so easily (the object has to be opened separetly). Also, WORD 2007 will place that object within the current margins, which means it may shrink the object down to fit it within those margins.

That's not a problem with the "Quick Parts" - the different elements, wether they be pictures, text boxes, or plain text, remain as such after added and can be edited like any other element.

Admittedly, I haven't been using WORD 2007 that long, and it is very different from 3003 and previous versions, so I may be missing something.

Well....Slap me upside the HEAD! 😳

I admit I was hasty about it.......should have been thinking about "Object" insertion....as a clue.

Now I am even more puzzled as it would seem you should be able to simply add duplicate pages like you can in MS Publisher.

I'll look at the quick parts and what that is about......Thanks............and apologies for the mis-direct.

    • RE: Question about Microsoft Word

WORD 2007 unfortunately will not insert another document file (oh, the humanity!).

      Daniel,
This piqued my interest as well, and it is possible to insert a word doc 'template"
Though I would use MS Publisher myself to accomplish this as you can just add duplicate pages.

To duplicate pages in Word 2007

      While on insert tab:

      1.) Insert blank page
2.) Insert object…create from file tab
      3.) Browse……”look in” trusted templates
4.) Select a template and insert.
      5.) Repeat

      How about one more.
Context click the axis......move...rotate blue axis +45°
Draw..... circle...enter 4 for the number of sides.
Draw your "square circle" from center allowing the radius to reference the red/green axis.
When done, context click the axis again....reset.

    • RE: Lost my dimension leader lines in SU to LO conversion

      Red,

As for the red arrows on text....try rt click....size to fit........to lose the red arrows!

      RE: Lines Missing.
I am assuming you are exporting to .pdf @ Output Quality = HIGH.

I have had "losses" of sorts using high quality setting.......and now always export to .pdf Output Quality = MEDIUM......with good & consistent results.

      Alternately:
You may also want to experiment with the raster/vector/hybrid settings to see if these change your results.

      Best,
      C

      EDIT:
As for the text in SU...Vs...text in LO......I would say you need to experiment some with the text height vs points in SU.

I prefer using the font heightset somwhere between 3" & 6" depending on the drawing scale set in LO........again something to experiment with.

    • RE: Using Shadows primarily for illustration purposes

      RichH,
Assuming you still have V6 installed:
Saving your file to V6 from V7 will allow the desired shadow manipulation...but likely you knew that.

What I did not know, and why I am posting, is that Layout 2 will permit SU V6 Import.
So having different shadow locales per scene is still possible via SU V6 & LO 2.

    • RE: Import Sketchup geometry into Adobe After Effects CS4

      Yes,Sort of.

If by AE you mean Acrobat Extended then there is a way if you have MS Office.
Though I suspect you mean AAE Adobe After Effects.
      If AE:
You will need to download & install Deep View from Right Hemisphere (free).
Then launch MS Office Word or MS Office PowerPoint.
From there you can directly import .skp models, then export to .pdf.
Once exported open with Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended and you can edit the 3d moodel in the 3D reviewer module.

    • RE: How do I "fade rest of model" in layout?

      Red,

I think fading the model or a variant of what you see when editing component/groups may be possible.
I took a quick stab at it by using duplicate scenes with different style settings.
I loaded the model in LO, set up scene1 with an xray style then copied and pasted the model directly on top of the scene1 and assigned scene2 with only the layers I wish to "see" & turned off the backround in the LO sketchup model tab.

As for the circle, just untick the fill on the shape style tab.

    • RE: 3d pdf

Thanks for the heads up about Deep View!

      Question though:
Anyone know how to create a 3d pdf directly from Deep View via Adobe Acobat Pro Extended?

DV directly imports the .skp rather nicely, and it would great if you could simply create the 3d pdf right from DV.
However, it seems that you are dependant on MS Office for the 3d pdf creation.

While this works ok, you lose the scenes/model views when creating the 3d pdf.

Unless I am missing something very obvious.

      Any ideas are greatly apreciated.
