RE: Making terrain that really follows countours?
Thank you. What do you mean by trim the contours so they are not obtuse?

RE: Making terrain that really follows countours?
@jteselle
I may have figured out a workaround -- creating a TIN in Autocad from the contours, and then importing that 3D object into SU. The TIN then follows the contours accurately.Would still be interesting to know if there is some other way to do this in SU.

Making terrain that really follows countours?
The attached file has imported contours, with grading around the road and building pad. I would like to create a terrain from this that actually follows the contours.
When I use the SketchUp create terrain tool, there are lots of odd jaggies. I also tried TopoShaper and while it is better, the terrain it creates does not always follow the contours -- on the building pad, for instance, at the almost-vertical edges, it makes them less vertical.
Is there a way with TopoShaper or something else to create a terrain that really follows the contours and does not smooth out too much or create weird jaggies?

A plugin to change the color of all lines?
Wondering if there might be a plug-in that would change the color of all lines (including in groups and components) to a chosen color (black in my case).
I usually work in lines "all the same" color mode (black) but I want to change the color of a few lines now in a model. Problem is, when I switch to line color "by material" some of the lines in various groups and components are black, and some are other colors. It's a big model and going into each group and changing the lines to black would be a lot of work.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Newbie question - trying to mock up an operable panel
I just started using SP (have been a long time SketchUp user). I'm trying to model a design for an operable panel (sort of like a garage door - it is supposed to pivot and raise up). The attached file shows it with SP stuff in it as well.
What is supposed to happen (I think) is that when you start SP and use the hand to push on the panel at the bottom (where the X is drawn) that will cause the panel to move out and upward. What happens in SP though is that the pivots go through the tracks (just as if the tracks were not there). But they don't immediately go through -- it's like the tracks work for a while, and then they "break". Also, the tracks on one side seem to work better than on the other, but everything is the same on both sides (I think). What is happening here?
I have defined the tracks as static objects. The pivots were initially just cylinders, but I added hinges to see if that would help (it did not).
Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks.

RE: Sketchup Window too Small at Startup
I think I may have figured it out -- after years of dealing with it, making the post here motivated me to start thinking...
My template that I use was created some time ago. Since then I have added a couple of plug-ins that add toolbars. By replacing the template with a new version that has all the new toolbars where I want them, the problem seems to go away (at least for now).
Perhaps the extra toolbars were messing things up?
Anyway, I hope this works from now on.

Sketchup Window too Small at Startup
This is an old problem -- just wondering if anyone has a solution.
I am using SketchUp 7 on a Windows PC, with XP. I've been using SketchUp for a long time (since version 2) and have noticed this problem from time to time.
I set up my window size maximized on my screen, with toolbars where I want them. When I exit and then restart, sometimes the application window opens correctly (full size) and sometimes it opens up small. I can't see any logic to it. When it opens small, I have to reposition all the toolbars, because they have been moved around to fit on the small window.
Any ideas as to how to fix this? I am using a template file when I start up.
