BINGO! I changed the axis and must have pointed it down and not up. I have the view axis off so I didn't notice it. Hooray rightside up components. You rock.

Thx for all yr help Xrok1. Your suggestions are all good. The hidden lines occurred to me also between when I posted & saw your reply. The way I see it I've got a couple of options, but I'm liking the idea of the two different hole spacings as sub-components... Look out for the finished version in the 3D warehouse! Cheers, Chris.

@henriquebsoares said: Hello! Really need help... I'm working in an office and in my computer I do not have administrator priviledges. I'm using Google Earth 5 and Google SketchUp 7 but when I try to import a terrain from Google Earth into SketchUp, Google Earth asks for a file called GoogleEarth.msi to complete the installation. My administrator has already updated Google Earth and the import/export process works perfectly on his login, but on mine it keeps asking for the .msi file. Even if I can find the .msi file (which the Google Earth installer apparently deletes), the dialog does not allow me to edit the folder path to retrieve the file and the preset path is some temp folder in the administrator folders, where I cannot access files. Does anyone have any solution for this? Thank you for any tips! Henrique, from Portugal Henrique, The problem you are experiencing is related to the Google Earth installer. I passed the information on to the developer who created the GE installer and he is looking into it. Since the problem is apparently very rare and complex, I can't promise it's easily fixable, but at least you know we are aware of it. Andrew

the purge did not work, what I did was took everything that was on layers back to layer 0, put the entities in groups and components, and have tried to sort things out via the outliner. the file size dropped from 11.8 megs to 1.2! So that was a one thing that contributed to the large file size. I sent the file to my engineer, but he has yet to respond...it is the weekend. thanks again for your support and insights. aloha red

All great insight you got here and it truely does come down to what your end goal is. If you are looking to really get into the mainstream of illustration work, you may want to consider v-ray as first priority. It is probably the most widely used in the industry, fastest, and produces top quality. Now, I am talking about final production work that big arcthitecture firms use and animation/illustration/motion graphics studios use. I know not everyone uses it, but it seems to be the most popular, plus it also is incorporated into most of the big name 3d aps., but there is unfortunately no standalone version. The other thing to consider if you are really trying to get serious about illustration is recognizing that there will probably be a point where you are going to need to make the a switch to the 3ds max, due to the limitations of SU in various areas, and v-ray is "THE Rendering Engine" for 3ds max, but from what I am told v-ray for su is fairly similar to vray for max. For just an architect, you may not need all this and another ap may suite you better, but like I said, if you want to get to the level of huge studios like spine3d or neoscape, you will want to learn v-ray. And if you have the time to learn it, which you will honestly need, the workflow can actuallly be very fast. Vray is more about what settings not to touch as opposed to altering a million different things. I recommend reading through the manual and just start playing with different materials. It will definately be worth it if you ahve the time to put into learning it. But the more apps. you learn the better you are so dont just look for one solution.

Hi Nicholas, What GE version are you using, also could you give links to the files (or upload them here)? This is not an every day use of SU/GE so I doubt that anyone would have an answer from their sleeves therefore the source files would be very helpful.

Well I don't necessarily want to use SU6 over SU7, but I haven't bought a pro license for 7 yet so I need the export functions of 6pro. Also I still have most my plug ins only installed for 6. Thanks for the help. Jon

If you keep your model far from the SU origin, you will always suffer from clipping (and this "jitter" syndrome Thom mentioned). The same even if you move your stuff closer to the origin but leave any tiny bit of geometry "out there". A solution could be (I'm just "thinking loud" now as I'm too lazy to try out) to select all in your original SU file (with the origin away in the distance) make a component of the whole model Save (this component) as... (Context menu) open the component as a "normal" SU model (note that the origin will be close; where the origin of the component was placed) do all the modelling work if you wish, "Reload" this model/component into the original file. Certainly a couple of steps to do but it shouldn't be more than a minute and you waste much more time with suffering this way.
