Well, my approach would not have been too different from Jean's - what I meant was to draw the whole dome first and then use the Follow me tool to extrude a rib along one of the radial lines of the dome. THEN make the radial array. He just made it in a different order (and the "rib" was created differently). Ribbed dome.skp

I've found that if I do the exports without orbiting or zooming in SketchUp or in Kerkythea and leave the resolution the same, it's pretty simple to get the alignment exactly correct. for thse images I did both at screen size.

IMHO, videos are a great way to start. Here's the official SketchUp channel on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/sketchupvideo?blend=3&ob=4

Hi Jean, You can understand the reasons but I still use the "Old Guide". Yet on the Text tool page there is also some mentioning of double clicking though it's a bit more obscure: @unknownuser said: [image: tip-32.png] Tip- Double-click on any face, while in the Text Tool, to display the area of the face as a Text entity. Thanks for your tip however...

This is a common "mistake" (if we can call it like that). Sometimes it's even performed in really unexpected situations when for instance a group created "on the fly" glues onto a face. See attached example. [image: 8GJJ_Unglue.png]

Yep, that did it. Thanks for the info. I knew I had seen option that somewhere, but just couldn't find it again. Now, someone with clairvoyance just tell me when I moved that slider. Thanks for your very quick reply. Ken

Rhino's native sketchup export is not at all good, and will hopefully get a tune up before too long - it is likely it will be posted on the rhino labs page when they get around to it. In the meantime, try using these settings for a dwg export out of rhino, which i have had pretty good results from: I model in rhino in mm with a tolerance of .1 Autocad version - 2000 save curves as - splines save surfaces as - polygon meshes save polygon meshes as - polyface meshes curve options - use simple entities simplify tolerance .05 polygon mesh detailed options: as per model settings, which should be everything set to zero except max distance, edge to surface = 2 check refine mesh check simple planes in sketchup import dwg settings : millimeters, merge co-planer faces, but uncheck orient faces consistently as seems to come from rhino fine. The other way around this is to buy moi, and then immediately download the v2 beta, which has an absolutely fantastic sketchup exporter. Moi will open rhino files natively, and you can actually cut and paste between rhino and moi. - in fact, moi is coded by the same guy who originally created rhino; i just consider it a rhino plugin - it will pay for itself on the first job or two.... cheers rabbit

Dear Xrok1, I do not render myself, so it was really interesting to see one of my models processed that way. Thank you. Kind regards, Bob

2Kemon Sorry for the late reply, I seemed to have missed your post. Both Infinite and Xstream are stand alone, the difference is Xstream can integrate with Maya, C4D and Max using other render engines like mentalray, vray, etc. IMO you do not need any of them as the 'Complet' version has all the bells and whistles needed. As for integration with SU, Vue 7 can import native SU files so you do not require SU pro to use it, however Vue does not recognise your groups and component structures so having models with hundreds of identical components in SU may seem light but as soon as it gets imported into Vue the all become unique groups which can explode into one huge taxing model, fortunately Vue can handle billions of poly's unlike SU.

Hmm, good question. I've never actually used that feature. But from a quick test, it appeared to work on my SU6. Chris
