I have a file of an architectural model that I successfully sent to a Mac machine.
But my engineer, who is on a PC, gets a "invalid file format" message.
      Any thoughts on this,
when he sent the file back to me, I could open it fine.
      the file size is 11.8megs.

is there a certain way to "save as" ?
he has downloaded sketchup7, as was able to receive a smaller file that I sent just fine, a handrail.
      but the larger file....
he has 1 gig of ram, could that be an issue?
any insights would be most helpful as I am quite stuck.

There shouldnt be an issue, although recently there have been a few reports of people not being able to open files between macs and PCs.

Short term: you could save it as a SU6 file (using the little drop down menu in the save window.)

long term: i dont suppose you could upload the file somewhere so some more mac windows/mac people could have a go at opening it. Might help to isolate the issue.

          Hey RedinHawaii,

I'm a Mac & PC user. Primarily I use my iMac 24" with no problems switching from SU7 Mac to SU7 PC. Post the file and I'll try to open it on my machine..

To the left is the "stuff" on my iMac.

I dont suppose the file has any imported autocad/vectorworks linework? according to the following post this has caused some problems: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=16991#p135238

Okay, is there a limit to the size of file that can be uploaded as the file seems to not want to "attach"
If I can figure out how to attach it I would more than welcome your feedback.

                Hi Red,

The file limit is 4 Mb. You can try to further compress it and upload it as a zip file if it's too big (or eventually share it via the 3D Warehouse which allows 10 Mb - if it is not a problem there).

the file is 11.8 so I guess I will have to figure out how to compress it and send it.
Just an old dawg having to learn more new trix.
                    So give me some time.

At first it seemed easy...then, the compressed file was 4.8megs...too big, I then tried 3d warehouse..the file had to be in the KML format...okay, learned about that but couldn't figure out how to get it into that format or why I would want to as it is not about a specific location on earth, in reality it is, and I do hope to link it to our GPS maps here, but that was down the road.
any thoughts on how to get it into 3d warehouse without KML?

When you want to upload something specifically to Google Earth, the website gives you thisposibility to do via the WH. Otherwise you can upload skp files from SU itself.

Try this: go to Window > Model info > Statistics and at the bottom, you can see a "Purge (something)" button. Pres it, save the file and see how big it is.

                            the purge did not work,
what I did was took everything that was on layers back to layer 0, put the entities in groups and components, and have tried to sort things out via the outliner.
the file size dropped from 11.8 megs to 1.2! So that was a one thing that contributed to the large file size.
I sent the file to my engineer, but he has yet to respond...it is the weekend.
thanks again for your support and insights.
