The actual command to export it out in 2007 file format (so you'll be able to import it into SketchUp) is "_AecExportToAutoCAD2007". You can also access it by pressing the big red upper left "A", picking the "Export" option and the choosing the proper "AutoCAD" format option. See the attached screen shot below. Snaps are immutable. However if you want to draw 'flat 2D forms then my 2D Tools Plugins might help. Wherever you are snapping to the result is force to be on a preset Z-plane...

It faces 'inside out'. Edit it and 'reverse' one or two faces, then select one face and 'orient' as they are all facing out... Fixed.

wow, thats a tricky one. you need 'raw' (ungrouped) geometry directly within the 'cutting' component, because this is needed for the component to actually know, where to cut. but as you point out, this will scale normally, whereas the frame parts will keep their width... haven't got any ideas of how to do it. but would be very interested, if there is a solution...

Jaxcoffee, I could probably give you a lot of information about where to find documentary evidence in the UK, but I don't think it'll of any use to you!

I have used auto-dimensioning occasionally in the past in a solid modeller (Solidworks) and found it generally made so many dimensions that I didn't want and had to remove, that it was easier just to make the ones I wanted. Admittedly, it was in the 2003 edition, so I guess things will have improved since then. You might find it easier/quicker to do the dimensioning in Layout rather than SU.

Lee, I can recommend Cadsoftsolutions in Cambridge, as a good UK-based SketchUp reseller. You need to talk with Nick, who will also provide you with support, although I would also recommend Aidan Chopra's brilliant SU for Dummies book and YouTube tutorials too. http://www.cadsoftsolutions.co.uk/ best, Tom Fenn

Thanks for everyone's help on this issue. What this was all about, is that I wanted to show the effect of using a 360 Panaromic HDRi image as background for rendering, and a smooth dome makes it easier to see how the HDRI is reflected. I wanted a good tool to make a quick, smooth dome - especially for reflection examples. The image below uses a Free HDRi provided by Bryan James. He made a 360 photo of the interior of St. John's Cathedral in NYC. The Sketch Up model is a reflective ground plane, and a reflective dome. Everything else is generated using the HDRi for lighting, shadows, background and reflection. [image: Z7Y9_stjohnsHDRI.jpg]
