      I just received an AutoCAD file which contains lots of AEC_MASS_ELEM objects. When I try to import it - nothing is imported - don't even get a summary.

      Can I convert these types of objects into an object type that the Sketchup importer reads?

      I'm using AutoCAD 2010.

        From googling I find this:
        http://blog.jtbworld.com/2007/11/calculate-surface-area-of-mass-element.html

        @unknownuser said:

        To get the surface area of a Mass Element use ConvertTo3dSolids (or select the Mass Element, right click and select Convert To>3D Solid) to convert to a 3DSolid and then use the Area command with the Object option and select the 3D Solid.

        But I find to Convert To>3D Solid - nor does "ConvertTo3dSolids" work. Is this an AutoCad Architecture 2010 feature? Can't it be done with regular AutoCAD?

          Does AutoCAD 2010 have an Export to AutoCAD option? AutoCAD Architecture (and I guess all the verticals) have it. When you save a drawing using it it'll create a copy of the drawing where the special objects (Doors, Walls, Windows, Mass Elements, etc) have been converted into standard AutoCAD objects, usually 3D solids.

          If standard AutoCAD doesn't have that option, whoever sent you the drawing should be able to do the conversion.

            Hi Rich - would you mind doing a screenshot of where exactly you find that option in AutoCAD Architecture? So I can send it to those who created the file?

              The actual command to export it out in 2007 file format (so you'll be able to import it into SketchUp) is "_AecExportToAutoCAD2007".

              You can also access it by pressing the big red upper left "A", picking the "Export" option and the choosing the proper "AutoCAD" format option. See the attached screen shot below.
